Well, I'm having trouble setting up my MegaT for lvl 3's I think I'm doing it inefficiently.
Ya ya, I know it's overkill for lvl 3's but it's what I got, I have squat for money, so I'm trying to make the best out of it. My gunnery skills are all lvl 3/4 bs lvl is 4, can fly 9 drones damage lvl 3, all armor skills maxed.
I have no problem with the missions but they take quite a bit of time and I'm looking to run them quicker.
Latest setup is
HI: 4x Large Ion blasters, 3x Elec blasters, 1x heavy missle launcher MID: 1x afterburner 100mn II, 86% web, 2x cap recharger II's LOW: 1x large arm rep II, 1x med armor rep II (think I don't even need this), 2x cap relays or damage mods, 2 - 3 hardeners
9x ogres in bay
It just takes too long, I hate to go medium guns and lose the damage mod on the ship. I web the frigates and let drones take them. Getting into distance on the cruisers is a pain with the ABII in deadspace and then tracking on them isn't ideal unless I web them.
Any suggestions?

Try running a mix of large rails and blasters, since it is level three, u can take a few down before they close, then u have blasters and drones to take at close range, this will save u time since u won't have to move much.

friend of mine runs 6x 350mm rails and 2x assult launchers, seems to do pretty well, the 350's for killing at range and the missles + drones for upclose he does all but lvl4 deadspace in this setup, personally for lvl3's i havent found one my enyo dosent handle

I recently went through some level III missions again to get some quick LP gains from a particular agent, and this set-up got them beat in very little time:
HIGH: x7 350mm prototypes MED: x1 100mn AB, x2 cap recharger IIs, x1 X5 prototype webber LOW: x1 Large armor repper II, x6 magnetic field stabilizer IIs
Your your high slot selection is messing you up. Mixing your high slots with modules with totally opposite roles and ranges is pretty much like nerfing your own set-up.
Ditch the blasters, they're useless for 75% of missions now (hint: deadspace and blasters don't mix). Your gunnery skills look somewhat decent; with railguns and all those damage mods, often 2 or 3 volleys from a battery of 7 350mm prototypes will take a cruiser out. Use your afterburner to keep your targets in the kill zone of your guns. For those annoying mercenary wingmen and other escort frigates, your drones will do the job.
Keeping hostiles in the optimal range of your blasters is pretty much impossible in deadspace, that's why they shouldn't be used (I believe this rule applies to almost all set-ups lacking the MWD). Even though I despise rails for anything other than missions, they get the job done insanely quick.
You really don't need hardeners either from my experience. A large repairer II is usually overkill by itself. When your guns are killing 5 or 6 cruisers long before they can even fire their weapons at you, tanking isn't an issue.
Anyway, try that set-up. Worked well enough to the point that I'd aggro entire deadspace stages and have them beat in no time with the overkill firepower. You'll find that rails will pop frigates in a single volley at 20k range or further (depending on ammo). Hit the little guys first and you usually won't even need your drones. Will save you alot of time.

Edited by: Torvail on 23/11/2005 23:49:19 Thanks alot quentin I'll give that a shot think I'm going to throw in a target painter instead of a web though and maybe an assault launcher
What kind of ammo are you using Quentin? I think I'll try that setup a little bit modified

For all-out damage output + rails, usually plutonium. 20-45k will get you good hits. Antimatter rocks as well of course, but I don't use it unless I'm fitting blasters - AM will kill your railgun range too much and start forcing your guns to do alot more tracking.
BTW, I made an error when I mentioned my set-up in my last post: if your cap skills are good, ditch a cap recharger and replace it with a sensor booster II. Carry an even load of tungsten and plutonium. For missions such as the Space Telescope you can just warp in, quickly lock and kill the nearby spawn which then aggros the spawns sitting 80-120k away. Switch to tungsten, quickly lock and pop. Mission over in well under 10 minutes.
So yeah, I use the sensor booster for all the level III missions I've done. It helps speed missions up as well by allowing you to target distant spawns, either to snipe them or aggro and get them to come closer. Will get Ganza done in well under 40 minutes.

well if your having difficulties right now then it best if you use a battlecruiser untill u have better skills. I know what you prob would be thinking why move down from a bs, to a bc, fact is that it will help you regulate your repair efficentcy and also with a bc you can do level 3.Of course you need a armor tanking setup, you will prob need to switch with differ hardeners depending on the rats.

Well, I'd be a little circumspect about dropping the hardeners and second rep until you are better at the missions.
I recall one level III mission I was running in a Tempest, when I screwed up and agroed the entire complex. They were only frigates, but there where enough of them that they broke my Large Shield Booster II tank, and got me into hull before my drones got them.
It was very embarrassing.

Since Mega is an overkill for lvl 3 missions I decided to "go all the way" and use Mega with overkill weapons: 425mm rails
The good thing is the guns also work well in lvl 4 missions, so I don't need to reequip when going against BS. With these things you don't have to chase rats around. Tracking isn't much of a problem-the 9 drones will kill everything that gets too close.

Hi
I use my Meg on lvl 3 missions when i want to rip thro em. Nothing fancy here but if you got some t2 or named stuff it does make a difference.
7 med 250mm rails (antimatter) 1 heavy launcher
2x webbers named if you have em 1x cap booster with 800's 1 ab You can always drop one webber and fit another cap booster if your worried about cap and let the drones take out the tacklers after you webbed em. Reason for the dual webbers is it lets me kill everything with my guns and leaves the drones as a reserve
1x large armour repper 1x active therm hardener 1x active kin hardener 1x active explosive hardener 3x damage mods
drone bay full of heavies
That setup works for me and is the same for every lvl 3 but bear in mind i have high gunnery and use t2 or named items. |

Its hard but im getting through lv3's in my thorax.
4x 250mm rails AB2, SB2, hardner PDS1x4 + Mag stab 8x heavy drones
Reason i dont even bother 'tanking' is because i dont get shot at much other than the odd missles. However i am doing serpentis missions mainly and they use blasters alot .

Stick in oodles of tracking mods so you can hit easily.
Blasters on a big slow tub in missions, er no!
Use the smallest rails you can so as not to lose your dmg bonus.
And OMG NEVER mix rails and blasters, slap teh fool who suggested that

I use one for lvl3 and now lvl 4 with this setup
high ----- 7x250TII, uranium or AM plus one cruise launcher (seige for lvl4)
mid ---- lif booster heavy cap charger 2 cap charger IIs
Low --- 3 kin, 3 therm (guristas) or 2kin ,2therm, 2exp (angel) 1 large arm rep II
sails through them, prob don't need the AB for the lvl3s as you won't have any BS to chase down so put in a target painter
oh and 10 ogres
