All I am asking is to be able to introduce planets and moons to this space game. I'd like to be able to land on a planet or a moon. Obviously a gas giant would be out. And reprogram the engine so you cannot fly thru asteroids or planets.
All you would need to do is randomly generate a planets surface based upon fractal geometrical mathematical formulas. It is unlikely you'd land at the same spot twice, unless you built a land base there, then it would save those settings so you could revisit it. Think of how much our world would expand if this were a true space game.

yep would be cool, and it would be very cool if u could REALLY land on it ,that means u fly through the different athmosphaires and not only land on it while seeing loading screen. wouldnt that be cool to fly through the sky and see the cities getting bigger and bigger till u see all small details ???

yes, when we are all running Zentiums with 1 terabyte/sec connections.

This doesn't sound believable. I think they whould have to make a major reconstruction or even make a new graphics engine to make this work. Although it would be nice to land on planets. A Expansion pack mission for the dev team :)

Didn't take that to run Frontier, as I recall. And in that game you could land at any point on any over several hundred billion (or was it several trillion?) celestial objects, and it would always look the same every time you landed there.
I don't see graphics being the problem here.

That is why I suggested a fractally generated landscape. It could look very realistic, using a fairly large but not insurmountable set of skins textures for all the types of landscape you could have. Randomly generate the area so that it never looks the same way twice, greatly reducing bandwidth requirements. And saving those spots where you have saved a landing zone, or region that you frequently visit.
Biggest problem would be the engine design for landing on the planet. The approach. How you land, with what you can land. Could you land in a frigate?
Have you ever seen any landing gear on our ships? Perhaps those shuttles weren't so useless after all?

they have said that something like this would mean re-designing the intire game engine, so they said that wont happen. "Maybe if we do a expansion pack someday". (cant verify completely thou) __________________________________________________________ |

So that means that this isn't the ultimate Space game. They better hope another game doesn't come out that beats them to it.

Be like Earth and Beyond, no matter what connection you have it lags really bad. Beware the Spoons |

At the very least I'd like to see gravity be a factor, and ... the Pauli Exclusion Principle be a factor. (not being able to fly solid matter thru solid matter). After all, isn't that what navigation is for? BTW, they should have named that skill "Astrogation"
