Hello there,
I have been playing eve for well over a year now, and since April of this year i have lost a total of 25 ships, Battleships that is. Only 5 have been lost due to PVP.
What am I doing wrong? Is there some big skill I am missing out on? In the whole time I have played eve I have had ONE ship extend its insurance and days later that to was lost.
I have been looking on these forums and doing the setups people say are good, but even then I can't seem to hold on to a ship for too long. It got to a bad point last night when I lost my second ship this month!!
When I signed up for eve some time back in 04, I stopped playing until January this year, has the gap in skill training given me a large disadvantage or am too much of a risk taker!
Please help!
P.s the battleships I have used are ravens and Apocalypse at this time i have a raven... again. Please help as its costing millions a time to re-place the ship and the weapons, i simply can't keep doing it.

Hello . . . ok if ya want a good response you need to be more SPECIFIC:
What are you doing and where (empire or 0.0)?
PvE or PVP?
What are your setups?
Throw that info on and I'm sure someone will give you a good response.

right here goes, i do NO pvp LOL i panic too much.
I work in safe space, been to 0.0 too many times and... surprise surprise i poped like a paper Weight!
I HOPE to do level 4 missions, but thats why i lost my last ship last night, so i am stuck with level 3.
My setup is as follows:
RAVEN
High slots:
2x Siege Lauchers
4x Cruise Lauchers
1x 750mm prototype cannon
1x medium blaster
Medium Slots
1x Xlarge Shield booster
2x T2 Shield exdenders
2x T2 shield hardeners (kinetic, thermal)
1x Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II
Low Slots:
2x cross-linked bolt array I
2x CPU
1x T2 PDU
And Drones
Current Skills:
All missile skills 90% level 4 rest level 3
Gunnery Skills 90% level 4 rest level 3

Do this:
6x cruise launchers
2x quad laser beams
1x xl shield booster
1x therm,kin,em hardners
2x shield boost amp
3x ballistic control units
2x power diagnostics

yeah i think you need more hardeners and less extenders that way you are repairing less damage and you dont run out of cap as easy.you also need the right hardeners for the mission and stack em high
its also a lot easier to manage when yer gonna warp out if yer looking at less damage per hit

My setup for level 4 missions is
6x Cruise (T2)
2x Medium Pulse lasers (T2)
1 Large Sheild booster, 4 hardeners (type depending on what im fighting) and 1 sheild boost amp.
1 Balistic and 4x PDU
Now if you use large not XL and 4 pdu instead of 2 your powergrid lasts much longer and the tank doesn't fail as fast (yes i know you repair less but trust me i run a lot less using this setup). And the tactic i use is hammer any frigs that insta aggro you and you may have to warp in and out a couple of times but its the best way then once all the webbers/scramblers are dead take out any cruisers/bs that aggro you then after the inital flurry you should be able to move to range and pick em off.... it takes a while but its quicker than buying and refitting a raven every week.

I use a raven in lvl 4's with this setup:
Hi
4x Cruise missile launcher
2x Siege launcher
2x heavy noss
mid
1x XL shield booster
1x shield boost amp
4x hardner (fighing serps mostly so 2 kin, 2 therm)
low
3x pdu2
2x bcu (bcu2's are too expensive atm)

all lvl 4 kill misions can be done with
6 T2 Siege
2 Empty slots

I was in the same boat, i started mid 04 but packed eve in for 4 months, my advice is check you have the utterly basic skills, going back and checking every so often is the best thing to do, I only recently noticed i couldnt use Nosferatu's but had a dominix, and train up gunnery skills, even the ones that you may not think you need seem to have a use

i have a corpmate you might get along well with; his name is 0m3ga, and he finds it hard not to blow up as well. i can't remember the last time he went to >0.5 and DIDN'T get popped or ransomed by a pirate. i think those guys must follow him around or something - they show up in systems that are usually pie-free and shoot him then leave

I've lost three Armageddons in 2 days before. About two days after I lost my Tempest, which was about 3 days after my Typhoon went boom.
It's a bad luck streak I am happy to see has stopped.
But now Im flying Battlecruisers >.<

lv3 missions in raven makes most money, and least risk. unless you have every missile and tank skill to lv5.
high: 6 heavy launchers, 2 heavy nos
med: 1xl booster, 1 web, hardners, w/e you can fit
low: 5 BCU.
with agent offers included around 12mil an hour, maybe more.

Large shield booster t2
2 t2 hardeners 1 named
5 t2 BCU
The above setup for me killlllzzzzzz, and killlzz well
for situations like the starting group of Silence the Informant, or the last gate of Vengence you will require to alter the setup as this cant tank that kind of damage for long.

It's in the raven's nature to like to pop. About 9 months ago when I was mission prostituting I lost 4 within 2 weeks. Since then I've been only pvping and lost no BS's (I switched to a Mega, though).
I suggest asking a mission veteran with you to correct the mistakes you are doing. It's kinda hard to point them out without seeing you in action. Gl anyway.
