We all know most of the designs for the Deviantart Spaceship contest look awesome.
We should just replace a good majority of our current designs with the ones from there, Goodbye, Celestis, Griffin, Moa, Drake, Dominix, Raven, Typhoon, Blackbird and many others.
Who cares how long it'll take, it's all for spaceship-flying, scrap metal shootin, ship spinning eve fans!!!

That would take time and development resources.
There is no "JPG to 3D" button.
CCP claimed at one point they have higher quality models that they render the in-game models off of, this is done to keep system requirements down. They could do another model update or simply provide an option to use the "full detail" original models in-game for folks with beefy PCs.

Lots of these ships look cool, indeed. But aren't we already getting that Minmatar Tier 3 BC, the Tornado? Seems to me CCP is already doing what the OP is asking for (except for replacing models, which indeed makes no real sense).
I wouldn't mind seeing an option to get the higher quality renders of the current ships, though, as mentioned above.

Just because you think a ship is ugly doesn't mean everyone else does. Personally, I think ALL caldari ships (especially drakes and scorpions and ravens) are ugly as sin, but some people love them.
Also, models done by fanbois typically don't hold up well to any kind of detailed intellectual analysis. Frigates looking like battleships and all that. |

Agreed - I also hate the Sac not being black anymore and instead using a Viziam colour scheme, whereas my Devoter now looks like a lump of mud...

Think he means "non-********" designs.
The Charon, for example, should go in circles due to the Engine [ lack of ] "Symmetry". They fixed the Scorpion, why can't they fix the other ships.
Megathron would look way better without that "pod engine" stuck on the one side; that in reality would melt the hull that's located behind it.
Another prime example is the Machariel. Again, what the hell is with the 'engine pods only on one side'-crap.
CCP's art team is like "put a donk on it? nah, dawg, we put a pod on it". I swear it's like one Artist starts the ship....and 20 others finish it. |

No. It doesn't fit in EVE's cold harsh and ugly world.
I really fell in love with one of the Amarr battlecruiser contenders .. but I knew it wouldn't make it because it looked just far too pretty.  |
