Kaeljen Dae,
Overly complex I think. Just ban the advertising of ETC's outright, and make it so that you can login and apply an ETC to an account NOT your own (with the warning that mistakes CANNOT be rectified).
This also, incidently, makes ETC's used this way even more traceable.

Wouldn't stop you giving them to a friend or stores selling them...

Well, consider this:
We aren't instating something new by entertaining this discussion, and neither have I said that I would even support CCP if they chose to do what I described.
But, the fact that there is rampant professional or semi-professional isk farming with the intent to sell going on within Eve says enough: there IS a market, and it IS out of CCP's control. Furtehr more, the isk production for this goal is very concentrated on a single field of gameplay and as such more disruptive then it would ideally be.
The scale of this within Eve is a tiny fraction of the problem in other games, mostly due to the gameplay.

Originally by: Avon Keeping the professional ISK farmers out of the game is, IMHO, worth compromising for. A one-way system without ISK generation is far better than either 2-way conversions (isk for cash), or direct purchase of isk from CCP (causing inflation). The real problem with the current system is that GTC's can be bought for ISK and resold on ebay for cash, giving a legitimate method for ISK farmers to capitalise on their efforts. Stopping this would make general enforcement easier. It may not be an ideal method, but we have to appreciate that CCP resources are limited, and anything that can be done to simplify enforcement must ultimately be for the good of the majority of players.
The pro's don't use ETC's. They just sell ISK directly.
And banning the advertising would work fine for your purposes as well, Avon

Ya, I know.
But to be bluntly realistic the volume of the whine is that something will likely "be done", and I'd rather than be an advertising ban rather than an outright ban.

I am fully aware of that.
Meh, it ate my post. Anyway-
CCP could have Ebay shut down all the auctions. They don't. And personally I think this is too much like banning Human nature. You need other means to go after IGE anyway.
And being able to add a ETC to someone elses account directly is a good idea, yes.

"Applicants must be willing to relocate to Reykjavik, Iceland."
Sticking point for me, or I would, believe me Oveur. Heh.
And well, Rod, I have to say that's probably why you are somewhat utopian (no offence) about techology. I'm a cynic by nature, which does help my job, but...

Originally by: Professor McFly I'm more concerned about the farmers who sell ISK directly through Ebay or through a middleman like IGE, than those using GTCs. Lineage 2 illustrates that concern perfectly.
And I share that exact concern. IGE's modus operandi is to buy from Corps (Guilds), usually by directly contacting the leaders. Drain the corp (guild) coffers for the contents in return for $$$ for the leaders.
No other tactic could be more dangerous in Eve, tbh, to subcribers.

Kaalise,
Not true. There is an IP rights program which, for example, Sony use to shut down all the EverQuest auctions. It's perfectly viable.
Why they don't, well, I have quite a few ideas but eh.

Edited by: Maya Rkell on 25/01/2006 17:02:46 PayByCash are expensive, slow and unreliable. You are FAR better getting hold of a gametime card. FAR.
Oh, and your alternative == inflation. No.
And Ithildin? This is GM-requested necromacy. (See the top sticky)

You have absolutely no business knowing who I deal with, Lacero. Just because a few players ebay does not mean that everyone's trade history should be open to anyone's view.
The issue comes up on TN a lot because it is one of THE issues facing MMO games. Personally, I think that games companies would be served best by a first strike, but eh.

You are not allowed to sign away a lot of things, even under contract law.
The value of your time is one of them*, for good reason.
(*yes, I KNOW it's a lot more complex, but as a first-pass approximation..)
