I'm sure that this must have been brought up before but I cant quite find an equal topic.
Drone management! Currently, there are scant hot keys and ways to manage your drones. So what I would propose is that the overview navigation buttons, when in a ship with drones can be expanded down which adds drone buttons that would basically mimic the current hotkeys except with a launch button too. The launch button would launch either your highest DPS group or highest DPS combination of drones by default and also had a hotkey for doing so. I know those buttons are next to useless for most of us but I do know friends that have a weird aversion to using hotkeys.
Secondly and more importantly I would also like the ability to drag drone groups out of the horrible current drone management window and into the ship module buttons (guns/mwd etc). Doing so would create a new action button where it was dragged. This action button when pressed would launch that drone group, should the drones already be in space it would make them attack the current target, just like other weapon systems. If a drone is destroyed and backups are in your drone group then pressing the drone button again will launch a replacement from that group. You can drag multiple drone groups down and create a different button for each drone group. If you have group 1 in space and press the group 2 button, group one returns to ship and then group 2 launches. Granted you still need return to ship/bay/scoop/assis/guard buttons but these can be handled by hotkeys, the drone buttons mentioned in the first part or the traditional drop down menus.
The main thing is to reduce the micromanagement of different flights of drones, being able to use them in a fashion to how traditional weapons are used currently. |

Yes, yes and yes. I support this idea. I think there should be 3 drone launch hotkeys which you would set yourself in drone hotkeys window and then ingame you would just assign a drone folder one of the hotkey groups.
As in ctrl+L launches drone group 1 You right click your group of hobgoblins you named heat small and set them to DG1 You press ctrl+L and your hobgoblins get launched.
It could be done fairly easily.

I may be new but still I am in agreement, the "Droners" are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to hotkeys. And breaking & modding the script isn't worth the effort. |

They won't touch drones because (I suspect anyway) of the hideous legacy code and potential to break the server. A LOT of combat lag comes from drones. Recoding them in a way that maintains their current function, without performance loss, will require an untold amount of work. That said, it has to be coming up on the overhaul list soon.
Whats Needed: -Good AI. It can be stupid, but it should be consistent and responsive. -A visual UI on the drone window. Launch (set default group), Orbit, Recall, Attack, and Assist all need buttons. And hotkeys. -Drag and drop group management. -Mixed drone types in a single group. -Health display for drones in bay.
Anyone remember playing Freespace 2? There was a small display for you squad mates, basically four dots in a formation. The color, blinking status, etc, told you what all your wingmen were doing (in combat or not), their appx distance from you and how damaged they were. It would be great to have that for drones, kind of a one-glance quick reference. Also good for drone control, just rt-click on the right dot to micromanage an individual drone. - Mission Overhaul - Bridging the PVP / PVE Gap - -áIf the game stops teaching people to fear lowsec, maybe people will start going there? |

not the first topic about drone problems and for sure wont be the last same goes for POSs but CCP is busy with rebalancing the ships and doing great job i fear we have to wait long time for drone and POS fix
1. you must be able to see drone damage in bay 2. a carrier should be able to repair drones/fighters in bay i mean its a freaking carrier 3. you should be able to make groups and control them as turrets (example carrier with 12 fighters 4 fighters on F1 and 4 on F2 and 4 on F3) so you can control drones better 4. attack/mine/repair with same button, if i am mining i need to right click group and select mine same for repairing with logi drones 5. drone assist/guard must be possible from fleet window and or the watchlist 6. focus fire option is great but it still spreads 7. sentry drones should receive a bonus from *race* specialisation skill i dont care what but they should gain something also ofc they need the *race* specialisation to use them i would say lvl 3 or 4
for point 3 en 4 i like to add (or clarify) that if you press F to engage all drones will always attack that target but if you use the groups you can remove a few and put them on another target. example i attack an enemy carrier and press F so all my fighters attack that target if i select another target and press F1 the 4 fighters will engage the new target and the rest remains on current target. this way you can controll the fight way better specialy in carrier
drones and POS`s are the biggest issues if you ask me. I know CCP is realy busy with rebalancing all the ships and they are doing a great job at that but damn fix drones and POS`s ASAP because its realy a big issue |

As much as I would love to see any change towards a easyer drone management I fear that the most possible dev answer will be like: - keep on discussing (feels like "we allready have made our descisions which way drones will be going") - "we will make some improovements in the upcoming expansion" (TM) "but dont take this as an overhaul; this will be coming later" (TM) |

The drone menu is probably the least intuitive now that the rest of the UI has had several facelifts.
- Yes! definitely! Hotkey to launch drone group (need up to 3), the hot key could be assigned to each drone group - I say 3 because I haven't really used more than 3 drone groups during an op ever. - A ginormous visual or audio warning in the UI that drones are NOT IN THE DRONE BAY prior to hitting the warp button would be nice, I can't believe how many drones I've lost that way. That or an option to recall drones prior to warp initiated if set as an option (this would need to be used carefuly because sometimes you bail and can't care less of drones, but mostly, you do care a bit not to warp because you forgot the drones). - "Salvage" option should be the top menu option for salvage drones, not in the middle as it is now (make it similar to the way the "engage" menu is on top for combat drones). - "Mine repeatedly" option should be the top menu for mining drones, not in the middle as it is now.

I'll gladly support yet another "Fix Drones" thread. They need the work. Badly.
As an additional nod to the drone UI and revamp;
1. assist/assign from watchlist or a targeted friendly 2. when assisting, remove the requirement that the person the drones are assisting must stop and start firing for the drones to begin. If I assist drones to someone who's already engaged, the drones should immediately engage the target being shot. |
