If anyone could help me out with a decent list of skills that I will need to pilot a battleship, (Preferably a Rokh Sniper Platform) that would be fantastic.

Can't see your eveboard without the password.
I'll start by saying you're going to need HIGH gunnery skills across the board for sniping in ANY gunnery-based ship if you want to do decent damage. Incarna from 2009. 3 Years later and what we have doesn't look half as good as this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n41s1Iox18A |

Also don't forget your cybernetics so you can get implant slots 6-10 filled up with hardwires that will further improve your gunnery skills (higher alpha, rate of fire, fall off, ...)
Shoot straight o/ Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first. |

Just looked at your Eveboard and another one that wasn't mentioned but is vitally important is the science skill thermodynamics! A single skill level in it will allow you to overheat your modules instantly adding +/-15% to your effectiveness in return for some heat damage (to the modules, not your ship) which is easily repped afterward. What else could one ask for out of 20 mins of training :). A lot of pew pew for the buck :)!

Radius Prime wrote:thermodynamics [...]20 mins of training While I totally agree that Thermodynamics is worth it for PvP, I'll add some caveats.
1) It's not that useful for PvE - it is much more important to last the distance in PvE than having a short burst. It's not completely useless, as it might help you break that Elite Cruiser's tank or to quickly kill some enemies of a big group to lower incoming damage, but overall, you can do just fine without it in PvE.
2) While Thermodynamics itself only takes 25 minutes of training, its prerequisites take a week - that's quite a bit longer than 20 minutes. Granted, most of the prereqs, including the longest skill Engineering V, are themselves useful, but you should at least add the time for Science IV, which takes 20 hours and isn't all that useful in combat for anything but overheating.

Noted. Thanks for both of your insights. I'm relatively new to the game, and figured why not jump right into a battleship and experience all that is awesome in Eve. While I take on this mountain of training, I'm going to be running missions and (hopefully) incursions to start building up my bank, since, battleships and their fittings aren't exactly, well, cheap to say the least. I appreciate all your help in getting me to where I need to be. |

Dont even step one foot in your BS until you are properly skilled you will just end up losing it and by the sounds of it not be able to afford a new one...Battleships arent the be all end all of Eve, Cruisers and BCs can be just as fun or imo more fun than flying the big slow boat that is a BS. |

Don't hold off on training science V just because it has no immediate use. You gonna want it some day as it is a prereq skill for graviton physics which allows training for interdictors, heavy interdictors and warp bubbles generators that come along with those. So you get more out of it then just Thermodynamics. He is right of course that for a PVE fit you don't need it right away but I assumed you were building a sniper for PVP gate camping rather then PVE :). My bad there^^
Good luck and have fun :) o/

QFT, a battleship is a big old boat, not to mention an expensive toy for a newbie. Work your way up the classes of ship, become reasonably proficient in, at absolute minimum, cruisers and frigates before you even think about a BS.

Dont forget the long range targeting skills if you're going to be sniping.
I'd also work on defensive skills just in case you change your fit to a close range blaster rohk. |

I've been flying around in a Ferox and Corax testing out both railguns and missiles, but from what I am told, flying a quick cruiser and "Tackling" for fleets is great fun. Currently, I'm training Cruisers to V, and I'll experiment a lot more with those to get a feel for the game; I realize jumping right into a BS probably isn't a very good idea.
I want to thank all of you for your input, as it is really helping me out in terms of finding my niche in the game =D.
