Greetings everyone,
As the topic pointed out I'm a miner by trade. It is what I spend the majority of my time doing. And I have made a good amount of isk doing it. Do I plan on selling my isk on e-bay? No. I am like the majority of players in this game who mine and dream of one day expanding out into 0.0 space and becoming a large scale producer.
I have read this board for over a year now, and over that time I've heard miners being called Carebears, lame, and not very smart. I'm not going to go over the whole explanation of how the very ship you fly started with a miner(s) that will surely bore you :). Recently there has been an obsession with macro miners. And rightfully so, they are ruining the game, no one can argue against that.
The point of this thread is, I hope after all is said and done us miners will hopefully get the respect we have always wanted. :)

The entire argument against macro miners rests on the fact that it ruins the careers of real, valid miners.
Miners keep the economy of EVE going, and I doubt any intelligent player here seriously dislikes them. - Proud member of the [23].

My name is Nathan Grey and I am a miner. Accordingly, the citizens of Devoid have been able to acquire Punishers, Incursus, Probes, Cyclones, 720mm howwys, light ion blasters, nanofiber internal structure, warp core stabilizers, co-processors, medium beam lasers, hammerheads, berserkers, and valkeries in areas where they otherwise would be left running several jumps or to an entirely different region.
I don't *enjoy* mining, and I need to follow up on some suspect macroers in the out-of-the-way systems, but my mining efforts have led to other players further enjoying their time in Eve.
Then they get blown up and buy more stuff :) ----------------------------------

My name is PiniclePanda, and I'm an ex-miner.
Having spent countless hours deep in 0.0 ninja mining ark 'roids under hostile alliance control in probes and scythes, with 18 jumps to the station, I've given up the job before stabbing my eyes out. Being a partial industrialist, however, I sincerely appreciate the legitimate miners out there, for providing me with all those high-ends I need.
Hats off to ya, raiders of the belts, devourers of the 'roids. I wish you all uber T2 goodies this holiday season, to further your profits and give you that extra edge over the macro miner.

In Real life I am a Mathematician,
In Eve, my main charater is a miner and industrialist. I like the mining side of EVE, as well as producing ships of all classes and types. I have turned out over 500 ships in the time that I have played EVE.
This week a Macro Miner moved into my home system and stripped out most of all the ore in the belts. It will take weeks for them to respawn to levels that will support my manufacturing.
This weekend I revolted and started a new corp.It started out with 3 and has grown to 8 with more on the way. We hunt Macro Miners and take them out. Today we destroyed a Ferox, part of a Macro Mining op, and scattered the remaining ships. Our losses were only 2 Kessies in the process.
Just a little math and a very bad attitude will do you good.

Those windows users be dissin me all day man, hate em. They think all their neatly aligned microsoft propaganda makes em rich, well guess again! because i can play more games than them on my mac. Thats right! i can play...uhh..tetris, YES. With tetris, i shall surely conquer the market and eventually create a game called Zork 12, which will further my income. Stupid windows users playing their doom 3, hah.
In seriousness: Thankful that you all build the modules, and ill continue to blow ships up + buy from you guys.
P.S. I once saw some really funny videos, which inspired this post. Would love it if someone gave me links to said videos. (youd know what i meant if you had seen them).

Edited by: Samuel Baxter on 28/11/2005 04:43:24 I, like so many others, am a miner aspiring to one day work towards operation in 0.0 security-level systems. For now, I confine my scope of activities towards building an ISK reserve to one day permit the acquisition of an Osprey-class cruiser.
It will be a long amount of work - especially over a college connection that likes to disconnect frequently - but I'm a patient man. I believe that finally having a cruiser to operate from will be well worth it.
On another subject raised in this post: anyone targeting and suppressing macro-mining activity has my full support: they have done nothing but collapse tritanium and pyerite prices, and become nothing short of a general annoyance.
Good luck, and good hunting.

Back in FanFest2005 I asked BURN EDEN people why do they hate carebears, people who don't actively seek PvP they said because those people are simply "lame" and would like to see all "carebears" vanish from game and leave only hardcore PvP'ers to play this game.
When I told 'em that you actually need carebears to produce your ships and modules for PvPing, they said that NPC's makes those and skipped my counter-argument.

/me kicks into full subversion mode
Miners are seen as lame Carebears for the following reason:
a) They always whine about there pretious implants b) They never pay attention to local and corp chat but whine when they got ganked c) Even in an case of emergency you have to argue them to go for PvP d) They get insane rich while brave pilots make thier alliance respected e) If you shoot random targets they instantly start to argue you f) They know all the bad words and start to use them immediately when they got shooten g) They claim that the lovely ships PvPers lose in battle are build by them (So why do I got a new Apoc and where went all the NPC loot too?)
Yes, only a very few tend to behave like that. In reality the line between grim men and carebears is thin. But humans tend to generalize and live in their own little world.

I don't think miners are carebears, I think carebears are carebears.
Lots of miners are carebears, but not all. Lots of agent runners are carebears, but not all. Lots of traders are carebears, but not all. Lots of PvP'rs are carebears, but not all. Lots of NORAD are carebears, but .. er .. (<- this is a joke, NORAD were the first alliance that sprung to mind, you should be honoured that you are forefront in my thoughts.) ______________________________________________

no miners = no ships/mods/ammo/anything else u can come up with.
Sure missionrunning gives u loot u can reprocess, but thats laughable compared to the amounts of minerals mined.
If people call me a carebear then so be it, i hardly care what others think of me, everybody should enjoy this game in their own way i guess, u like mining? go mine, u like missions? go do missions, u like sniping innocent 1 day old nOObs in their nOObfrigs to get a higher rating on your killboard? go find a real thing to do u loser, but i will gladly sell my BS to anyone thats willing to pay for it, if they call me a carebear or not and if they pod newbies or not

I would like to take this oppportunity to ask that these genocidal people take a minute of their time to think about the pain and anguish they are causing to my friends and family, and take a good hard look at themselves and possibly rethink their 'careers' ----------------------

Hey gardo0k .. your a vision my man .... We are a small corp called the UHBC ... theres two of us at this time .. and need an experienced miner to oversee mining operations within out two man corp .. you will be responsible for organising and running mining operations within the uhbc ...! To grow alongside ourselves in experience and skill points until such time as you are able to sortie into 0.0 with an escort fleet.
Or at some stage we ourselves are planning a move into 0.0 at some time .. but not in the very near future .. if your interested .. come on down to Droselory and meet the other chap in the corp.

Apparently none of the BURN EDEN members you spoke with have played the game long enough to remember the insane prices the NPC's charged for their goods...or the fact that they did not supply enough to support an economy. The NPC's dont make most of the ships that are in our current market and you wouldnt buy an NPC made ship anyway because its 150% higher than player prices.
Also without the "carebears" where would they get money....well without becoming carebears themselves. |

jeez its a JOKE
we call them griefers they call us carebears (imma miner too ;p). They obviously realise the game wouldn't be any fun without us (without having us to shoot at and without having us to build ****). And without them we wouldn't have anything to do either ;p k?

A moment of silence for the powdered rocks... as I go fetch my hauler.
Though Omber, specifically, I consider to be an endangered species, and leave it in peace.
The other rocks, I figure I'm merely culling the heards of the slow and weak rocks that were unable to flee my mining beams. The strong and fast rocks survive to spin another day.
Macro-ers, on the other hand, should be set to -6 sec status at random so that players with guns can have five minutes of fun. I've been a bit miffed watching some macro-ers in the boonies of The Bleak Lands, in otherwise dead-end systems that would go unvisited, stripping out what they can. ----------------------------------

Heinky is our director of carebear operations still.
And we do not want to vanquish all carebears from this game completly. You misinterperated what I said. EVE wouldn't work like that.

OMG this is starting to sound like an AA meeting, get off the roids guys. See the light, and let the almighty into your life.
Mining is not the only way, its the boring way. Trust me , I know. I used to be a miner. But I have found a nich in 0.0, I mine once or twikce a week.. tops.
Try to deversify and find other ways make isk. Variety is the spice of EVE (and Dune... I think).
