It seems to me that these two ships have been named kinda the wrong way around.
The Claymore is the command ship, and the Sleipnir is the combat ship.
A claymore is a huge Scottish broadsword, whereas Sleipnir was Oden's eight-legged horse.
Now which name do you think fits better for each ship type?
Would it be possible to have the names switched before this hits Tranq, or could someone provide me with some kind of logic to why they are named as they are?

Actually, the same pretty much goes for the Rapier and Huginn.
A rapier is a weapon, whereas Huginn was one of Oden's ravens, that he used for gathering information around the world. (Or something like that.)
Wouldn't it make more sense for the Combat Recon ship to be the Rapier, and the covert opsy one being the Huginn?

Claymore is actually also a very nasty mine that contains ball bearings and shreads you into small pieces

Yeah. Named after the sword thingy though. And still not real command type stuff. More combatish, in my not so humble opinion.

Hoorah for lessons in history and mythology. I completly agree with you there, the name definatly "fit" better the other way around.

How about re naming them "Bert and Ernie"
Bert could be the command ship.
While
Ernie would be the combat one.
Works well together if you ask me

HeadWar asked me to throw my "massive" wieght onto this thred (he keeps a spreadsheet of all MC pilot's RL physical stats).
Huginn and Muninn are deff. best suited in place of the Cheetah and Hound - small covert ops ships (although neither of the two ravens were exactly small).
That said, the Sleipnir was something of a war horse, however, and could carry Odin over land, sea, air and to the land of the dead. More or less.
The Rapier is a small-ish, flexible, sword. It was one of the primary weapons for duelling, and was essentially a "sportive" weapon. It is suited for a covert sort of ship, although there's better choices lying around.
And to finish it off, a short little interesting fact: the most used god for ship names in EVE is the various forms of the Ishtar goddess - a goddess of both fertility and war... it's all about sex and violence?
So. When are these forums going live in game? |

Yeah, I can see it now, Oden, the God of War, riding into battle on his mighty eight-legged black steed, Sleipnir, with his chickens Fowl and Play perched on his shoulders... Umm...

I endorse this product or post.
It is not a big matter but it would feel more correct the other way round.
At least CCP is nuts on ancient mythology, just like me. Yay for cool shipnames!

Yeah, since I fly only Minmatar ships, I'm real happy that it's Minmatar that get the Norse names. But I still want these two ship classes to have their names switched around, dammit!
Who is it that's in charge of naming stuff, and is it possible to get a reason for the naming here? (I'm still hoping that it's some clumsy programmer with no sense of style who just assigned one name to each ship, and got it wrong. )

Actually Oden is not the god of war, he does have alot of roles being the high god of norse mythology however a more accurate description of his warish side would be that he is the god of winning.
A more common title he has is the god of knowledge and wisdom.
The true god of war in the norse mythology is Tyr, he is the general of the forces and the bravest of all the norse gods.
Just felt it needed to be said.
As for the naming of minmatar ships, I very much like the fact that they take names from asatron (more correct name for the mythology than norse) to name Minmatar ships, the fact that not all are spot on can be talked about for ages, the wolf for example could easilly be renamed Freke to fit in with the norse mythology but why?
Just like in real life each ship is named when it is being created and I have full understanding that the artists may want to put their own names to them.
------------ 20. Is it true all pvpers have carebear alts? Yes, of course. I have so much fun looking up who's alt is who's

I am not sure I want a ship named for something that waits for an enemy to come by and blows up.
that is a course of actions I would prefer not repeating.

Fester, I know, but my little text wouldn't have been as dramatic if I had called him the God of Wisdom. He is indeed the god of a lot of different things.
As for the ship naming, yes, if there's an underpaid artist-slave somewhere in the CCP dungeons that wants the names to be assigned like this, that is perfectly fine with me. I'm just afraid that there might be no thought at all behind it, so trying to apply some of my own. The truth is out there!

I agree.
However, I think 'Claymore' is a name far more suitable to a HAC. -------------------------------------------------- Loyalty, Integrity, Honour. |

Well, the Field Command ships ARE HACs, except bigger and meaner. :)
Thus, I want the Field Command ship to be named Claymore, instead of the Fleet Command ship.
