Ok i was at work early this morning 8am uk time, so thought i'd log onto eve with my laptop and fly back home, whilst flying through verge vendor i noticed a throax on scanner, so as any bored pirate does he goes looking for him for a quick mil hehe, after about 5minutes i find the thorax in a belt killing npc's so i sit there warp scrambling him, and convo the pilot saying "2mil mill or your ship"
and to my demand he replies pirates are terrorists and i have no intention on paying pirates or terroists so go ahead kill me i'd rather loose my snake implants than pay scum like you
and then he logs but what he did not realise i still had his ship scrambled so after waiting 5 more minutes for him to log back in i got bored and blew the c**p out of the thorax.. why on earth would someone rather die and loose his implants worth 20mil+ each than pay 2mil pfft it's beyond me, got myself a nice set [x4] of 1600mm reinforced
stupid carebears never learn... pirate scrambles your ship.. pay or die and loose your stuff.. i'd rather pay than loose my gear at times
u gotta love those

I wonder why he loged off? ALL that UBER loot. No loss to him really, and chances are he did not have implants.

And clearly by logging off and not paying your ransom he knew he would not risk his implants, as the pod would warp the instant ship went pop.
Sounds like he knew what he was doing tbh.

Me and the gang caught a hauler after he did a mistake in his attempt to flee once. He didn't want to pay because it was against his morals or something, so he started the self destruction sequence. I figured "hell, I wanna see where this leads to. I'll just get the pod instead". Unfortunately, he managed to warp away with the pod. He did however drop bookmarks, which he for some reason was carrying in his hauler.
His equally nutty friend tried to save him, by engaging us with his AF (After the hauler started self destructing!). He died very quickly but managed to save the pod, and then he proceeded to smack talk us for about 20 minutes, telling us we sucked since we needed 4-5 ships to take him out, and how he will never sink as low as to pay ransom to pirate scums ever. He then tried to convince us to get him a new AF so that he could show us he could own us all if we went 1on1 against him. When we told him we were not gonna get him a new AF, he told us we were scared.
Damn, I wish I had gotten the pod, because then my perception of carebears wouldn't be so biased towards pirates as it is today. I know, he did try and fight us, so he isn't really a carebear. But still, Im just a sheep in the flock...

yeah that's funny, what is really funny tho, is when you kill someone expecting to get some loot and find that they had nothing in their hold or on their ship.
I'd love to hear Capt. Rob's comments when he killed me and found nothing.

Last night, me(kestrel)and a mate(wolf) were in crielere, we were sitting at the station as there was nobody actively in space....much to our surprise and happiness, a retriever pulls out of station. We think, surely he wont warp to a belt with us here? But lo and behold, he does. We follow him, and i warp in at 11km, second or two later he's scrambled and i start pummeling rockets at him. Wolf arrives and starts 280mm howie t2's his ass. His armour is gone now. Start conversation...."6 million or your ship"(note this is a pretty good amount for him, as we'd have been well within reason to ask for 10. He refuses and delays with comments like; "I dont do fighting, i mine and mind my own business" "I dont do PVP"
To which i respond "you dont have to, just pay"
Anyway, he refused so he lost his ship. We got 1 strip miner 1(around 3 mill)and he lost another one. Also got some ore and mining drones.
Why, WHY wouldnt he pay?? He really must not have had the cash, which i find hard to believe, but the strip miners alone will cost him 6 million.
Pirates who get ransom money then kill anyway, REALLY are destroying honourable pirates reps.

People are like that in any game, which is what makes playing any sort of bandit or pirate difficult. Nobody wants to pay, even when it makes sense to. They want to stick it to you, to stand up for something. They would rather lose their ship than be coerced into giving you something, even if it is a trivial amount. It is rare when you actually encounter someone with the sense to pay a smaller fee as opposed to losing a far larger amount.
I played a game called Jumpgate with my friend, and we were pirates for a while. I attempted to pirate one player for some trivial amount (considering what she was flying and armed with), I think it was 10,000 cr, her ship was over a million. She instead wasted 250,000cr worth of missiles to not kill me, then lost her ship. I still have screenshots of her calling me all sorts of names and insults after I blew up the ship, to the end effect that I was an example of everything that was wrong with the game. All I wanted was 10,000cr.

You pie-rats ever stop and wonder why people refuse to pay you? Most of parts its because you are lazy bums who wants freebies from people or you will hurt 'em. In normal world when scumbags like you come and ask lunch money in school of course those little nerds will give 'em because you will otherwise hurt 'em. Now in this virtual world, you cannot do that thus they have courage to stand against you and say: "I will lose 100mil worth of stuff rather than bend on your will!"
If you had a change to stand up a bully and say "fsk j00, no lunch m0ney!" would you do it? ________________________________________________________ "@(Hammerhead) but like, I'm not a programmer, I just nerf you guys" |

Perhaps it's just me but I would much rather pay a reasonable ransom then loose my ship and fittings. Not to mention any implants I may have. But then again like I said perhaps thats just me.

So... you'd rather just have psychos blowing stuff up in low sec for the sake of having a dangerous element in the game? I thought people loathed those more than they loathed ransoming pirates.
Oh, and pirates are by no means lazy. Capturing people in low sec is alot of work. Sure, you can snipe at gates, but everyone agrees it is quite boring. It can be days of tiresome work to accomplish anything at times. And please, get some perspective: "scumbags like you" is such an awful way of putting it. Makes it sound like you think pirates are real life bullies. Nothing good comes out of introducing real life morals to a strange, fictional universe.

Edited by: Macro Media on 01/12/2005 11:16:31 What I dont understand is WHY the heck do people go in 0.4-0.1 to mine?
Jasp is worth less than kernite per m3, Hed is barely better than kernite per m3, and thats about it.
If you are going to risk your ass, then go 0.0 and make 500k isk per minute mining crokite or whatever, but for gods sake, dont waste your time in 0.4-0.1!

oo aint my thread popular
Pirates ransom or not have a good laugh if your sat there with 3 mates scramming a barge and it's hauler in 0.4 and there smaktalkin in local who wouldnt find that funny.. pvp is good fun thats the bottom line, i used to mine with my barge till i thought sod this and went to low sec making a pain of myself and getting nice and rich in the process, u'd be surprise how much respect you'd get from some pirates from paying them.. to me it shows you have a brain and have looked at the negitive and plus side of paying.. for example..
if i was flying a large barge worth 25mil+ and say the insurence is 10mil for plat and you can mine 10mil each hour worth of hemo or jasp.. and a pirates ransoming you 2-3mil and if i dont pay im gonna loose my ship along with my mods[t2strip miners etc] and then possibility im gonna get pod killed so thats another couple mil for a new clone etc i know the positive of paying and they leave u alone out weighs the loose everything factor
but hey not everyone see's it like that i have alot of people coming where i am and pay and there left alone to make more money..
Or buy a NAP[non agression pact] between the pirate and his corp for a set fee per week and your free to mine do what u like in that system etc makes alot more sence than to get ransomed loads and loads times
people who dont understand pirates and call them scum are just sore cos they got ganked by some other pirates.. were not all as bad as some of them out there who just gank everything they can, i prefer to ransom it than gank it cos i know how much the losses hurt when i used to but hey alot more fun
also 1 other question is.. why do noobs come to low sec when there only a few days old[not alts] i get about 20+come through my sys doing missions runs or coming for the npc's and then they complain they loose there new catalyst to the npc's who are 100k etc stay in high sec till you can manage out in low sec
