I just wanted to put up a thread to say that Papa Smurf, as far as I'm concerned is the best coder I've had the privilage to encounter.
I wish more devs would take the time to let the smurflings know what the hell is going on and what their intentions are.

Maybe not the best (John Carmack is tough to beat!), but certainly one of the most responsible as far a keeping the customer happy. :)

- responds to user feedback
- explains how things work, with some actual specifics (you know, even if there are the odd bugs, this approach builds confidence *anyway*)
- constructive attitude, despite some nasty people around here
- seems to have a balanced approach to the game--please see Papa's post about the 1.0 systems and ppl with -10.0 (precis: -10 shouldn't be allowed in 1.0 perhaps, but 30 secs is kinda fast for concord to show up)
- seems to pay attention to ppl in small corps/freelancers and doesn't take advice from just a select few players (which doesn't seem to be the case in general, but whatever :)
PS deserves some respect and appreciation IMO.

I get 'cranky' sometimes but I have ALWAYS said this. I recognize a valuable man when I see em. I've even done this (great idea) post one better - early on after seeing his style (well before vacation) I sent a feedback thru online petitions commending him in attitude, skill and customer service...

Yup.
I don't care if PS occasionally screws up. Hey, people are human. But when he fouls up, he ADMITS it and gives us details on how things are fouled up.
And he doesn't just say, "It's fixed" - He says, "Should be fixed, let me know if it's not next patch." Looking forward to testing agent docking code tonight. :)

I'm sorry, I disagree, and don't really support him like you do. He may be good at communication and/or keeping you all informed, but honestly the agent code that was put up right before he left on vacation was terrible.
It may be fixed now, but if you know that your company is hiding behind a "we can't verify so we can't reimburse" policy, you do not put up code that causes people to lose faction, sec rating, attributes, or skills! |

Dont you think everyones aware of the existing bugs and problems in the game? Do you think were talking about that and that there arent enough threads all over the place about it? Theres always a twit who has to ***** about something everywhere.

There are some people who are NOT aware of some of the existing bugs. No, I do not think you were talking about bugs here, and yes, I do think that there were enough threads about the faction bug, after it was introduced.
I didn't post here to ***** about the bug or to report it. I posted with the specific, malign purposes of bursting someone's bubble and turning this thread into a flame fest.
Upon reading all your posts again, twice, I realize I made a mistake. You are commenting on his communication skills. Yeah, those are great. |

Everyone's human. Bugs are bound to happen.
Sadly, the timing of that bug was pretty bad. :(
