Yup, we spotted that one too, the types are infact in the itemdb already, we just need to add them to the market groups so you can click on them :D This should be live tommorrow if all goes well. EVEnews |

Edited by: Kylania on 02/12/2005 01:56:16 Nice work!
A few comments:
1. Client side font changing is broken. With IE, end users can't even change the font size. With Firefox the font size changes, but your tables don't scale with the text as they should. This is Very Bad ThingÖ. The cause is that you're using multiple DIVs with hardcoded widths and heights instead of normal HTML tables. It looks pretty if you're viewing it on the machine it was designed on, but it removes the end user's ability to adjust the site to view comfortably. Not all your users have large monitors with perfect eyes. 2. With Firefox the radio buttons and poll text, plus the Alliance News and Server Monitor "buttons" take the user to the non-existant interview featured at the top of the site, not the intended poll functions. Something messed up with the rendering of the banner ad HREF? IE seems to work better, but the blank space between Alliance News and Server Montior responds as a link, even though there's no visual representation of it. 3. Any way to get rid of the animations of the server graphs? Seems a bit slow and doesn't really add to anything. The graph's "ad url" is a hard to read shade of blue on the main page, but I assume that'll go away once it's registered? I'd also suggest showing the type of numerical data that eve-i had, namely high, low, current and record users in numerical form, easy to see. One shouldn't have to mouse over to see exactly how many people are on. 4. "Alliance News" individual links forward to the eve-online.com domain. Perhaps mark external links in some way? 5. Just personal preference, but I'd mark stories as "Date - Time", rather than "Time - Date". What day something was posted is often more important than what time. 6. Why is a random feature a story about some moron in Homeworld? -- Lil Miner |

hi, thanks for your input, tables are an archaic layout format, using css and div's is the more modern approach to web design. We will not use tables on the site layout except for on the forums which are already designed in this way. I can understand that some areas are a little buggy, it is the first time i have adopted a completly tableless site design and such a complex one. I will be spending some more time on that code to have the ability to set different 'blindness ratings' which will expand the width of the site to compensate for larger text sizes.
The animations are configurable to remove and will be available as option to turn off once user registration is enabled.
The graph 'advert' is not configurable and as such i could not modify it, thanks to rapid and very generous donations by the eve community i have now been able to order the full versions of the graphs which do not have the advertising.
The Alliance news system is not intended to pull links from www.eve-online.com unfortunatly as parts of the user system slipped past the launch date, i had to code in a temporary solution for this box. It's functionality will change, for now it just links directly to the player news articles.
as for the stories, it should'nt display a time :) i will remove that when i get a chance
The random feature code is a little bugged at present, but basically it will randomly pick a feature from all of the fiction, guides, previews, reviews and interviews (once they exist) to give you something different to read each time you visit if you are bored :) - and if you have never read GAN, shame on you!
But thankyou for your comments :D EVEnews |

Originally by: Professor McFly Good work. Though I feel sorry for eve-offline.net getting upstaged a little.
I'm not :) We are in need of a really good fansite, and EVEnews will take that role perfectly, and I have no doubt that they will be able to maintain it much better than me since I have a lot of other things going as well.
I most likely can turn EVE-Offline into something else that is of benefit to you all, imo EVEnews is very welcomed and I have no hard feelings.

Is there a chance to see the server monitor show charts from the past months, 6 months and full year as the data is gathered?
Or it will remain stuck with the 24h and the monthly daily peaks?

Yes, there are lots of graphs planned, however as we only have 25 days of data it is hard to fully develop a test those graphs and right now they would'nt look to good anyway.
Unfortunatly we have no access to EVE-i's data and even if we did the EVE-i forums use a different system than ours.

looks great.
the text box for item description seems to be a bit small, doesn't fit all text in it in some cases, a bit of additional space there would be really nice.
ex:
'Nemesis Name: Nemesis Hull: Tristan Class Role: Stealth Bomber Specifically engineered to fire cruise missiles, stealth bombers represent the next generation in covert ops craft. Advanced techniques in spatial distortion technology enable them to potentially'

Great to see such a good Community site.
I made a donation and would urge my fellow EvE Citizens to do the same. Let's make EVENEWS.COM even better than the Old EVE-I.
Once again, GOOD WORK to the evenews.com crew

Thankyou for the donation! i will be updating the donation page to thank all of the donators, no matter how small. Not only that we will have some special rewards for donators on the site SoonÖ :)
As for the itemDB, we updated it today addressing most of the issues people have raised. We have something special planned for comparing items. But we think that rather than spending time expanding the itemdb with an almost limitless number of possible improvements. It would be better spent initally adding more cool features to the site to give you something to keep you occupied for the entire 1 hour downtime each day !

I asked a question in a previous thread but I didn't get an answer or didn't find it again to read it. Not sure which ^^;. What kind of mechanisms are in place to allow me to update the tools I would be co-hosting on your site? I have something useful but am currently going to host it on my own site because it needs to be updated whenever I need to, along with update notes.

Whoever writes the articles, can't spell "you're" correctly. Please note- "your" and "you're" ARE different words and have different meanings. Petty I know, but if you're (note the correct use) publishing something on the net, you need to get things right.
Good luck with the site. It looks good so far.
