Welcome to my VERY basic introduction to any minmatarrian players, wanting to start pirating.
SHIPS As minmatar pilots, we, you and I have acess to a very nice assortment of beautiful ships all following the same paradigm: Speed.(MORE TO COME)
Basic setup ideas.
Firstly, Minmatar guns are projectiles (Autocannons and Howitsers.) Autocannons are short ranged, rapid firing guns. Howitsers are high powered, slow firing, long range guns. When fighting in frigates, you need to take into account how close to your victim you will be - Stasis webifiers will slow your ship down - taking away it's main advantage over all other ships, speed. The average stasis webifier range is 10km so when I fly frigates, I enjoy orbitting out of this range and therefore use howitsers. Damage with autocannons often ends up being better overall due to DPS(damage per second) but because of the fast ROF (Rate of fire) more ammo will be used per second, increasing their maintenance cost. One of the main problems with orbitting at a longer range is how to lock your victim down, Warp scramblers can only be used wihin a 7.5km range, and warp disruptors can be used at a 20km range. The dissadvantage with the disruptor is that a) it is only half as likely to warp jam your victim due to being half as strong (1 scramble pont opposed to 2) and b) it drains alot of capacitor, a valuable asset no matter what your setup. The main point of using a frigate over any other ship is its versatility and agility. The frigate can orbit a ship so fast that the victim is unable to hit you with its guns due to TRANSVERSAL VELOCITY. The transversal velocity is to do with SIGNATURE RADIUS and speed, this can all be calculated by working out how many radials are done each second and at what distance, but I usualy just use trial and error on Corp members ships. Various modules affect your base top speed (overdrive injectors) then 2 modules (Afterburner and Micro warp drive) affect you're overall top speed by multiplying the base speed by a certain percentage. The micro warp drive gives a far better speed overall but drains more capacitor than the afterburner and increasesyour signature radius by a vast amount (making it easier for other ships to hit you). All in all, i prefer to use the afterburner as the capacitor amount and speed weigh out the signature boost and capacitor drain given by the micro warp drive. Overall, the Minmatar ships can easily support all frigate class modules that would be required, like micro warp drives ect with an enormous amount of versatility as far as setup is concerned.

I prefer fitting 2 rocket launchers on my Rifter because they will just work from very close to almost howitzer range quiet well, they have a pretty decent ROF (better than standard missile launchers). I also prefer nanofibres instead of overdrives, the speed is somewhat lower but you also gain agility which is a frigates primary asset, it will help you to fly really tight turns or align for warp a little bit faster. And let's face it: If someone gets you down to structure a few HP more or less probably won't save the day.

What kind of ships could a solo Rifter pilot hope to take out? Other frigs and haulers? Or could a good pilot hope to give cruisers a run for their money? How much better are the T2 frigs, and do you prefer them or interceptors for pirating?

I have taken out many cruisers, and a tempest (sniping) with my rifter. But i have lost many many rifters. They are a very versatile ship and can take out most things as long as they dont have drones, smartbomb ect. I love the wolf, jaguar and stiletto but the rifter is my favourite ship because it is so dispensible.

Any other frigate could solo a rifter if he played his cards right...
Cruisers are possible but not likely to kill...
And t2 frigs will usually kick a cruisers *** and down with only slight difficulties here and there depending on their skills....or maybe a stupid pilot...
