I totally just bought this Omen and it's like, great. I don't really know how to use it yet or even really what it's for (that manual is kind of big, I'll read it later) but I wanted it because it looked cool and it does. It's a "cruiser" so I figure I can just "cruise" in it or something for now and that'll be okay. It's all sleek and stuff and the crew seem to like it.
It's really smelly on the inside though. I got it for a bargain basement price (otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it at all) and it's because the cargo hold was so soiled. There were all these blood stains and bits of offal left in there from I-don't-know-what-went-down and I figured I could just clean all that up, but even after my crew got to it with the industrial cleaning gear there's still this residual stink and it's really annoying me (and before you haters say "it's the pilot" my other ships don't smell like this so shut up).
So any recommendations on cargo hold cleaning product would be helpful. I figure some of you were/are either professional cleaners or professional mass murderers so you may have come across a similar situation and know the best solution. Already tried:
* Ammonia-based products * Acid-based products * Industrial sandblasting * Repainting * Flying around in the vacuum of space in close orbit to a sun with the cargo hold open
My new Omen just has the stock cargo bay, no modifications. Thanks for the help! |

Fill the entire thing with Organic Mortar Paste (do not allow into contact with skin AT ALL).
I've heard of what it does to organic molecules, whether living, dead or inert; so I assume that if the stink is a molecular problem, this will fix it.
Remove the viscous, highly corrosive (to tissue) block of paste from the cargo hold after a few days with some nano-solvent.
It is probably cheaper just to self destruct the poor vessel, claim insurance and put it towards a more recently constructed vessel. CEO of the Achura-Waschi Exchange: An International trade corporation that adheres to State values

And this is why I make sure every ship I fly is new, built myself, or by someone I trust. The very thought of flying something that someone else has touched is off putting to me.
It isn't a good idea to buy them from the market when you don't know where they've been. If it's in that state on the outside, then I hate to think what condition the systems are in. Even if you are into buying other people's leftovers, the previous owner obviously didn't take care of that cruiser. There could be a lot else that's wrong besides the smell.
Sell it, buy some minerals and materials, then find somebody to build you a new one. |

If you make use of a well ventilated garbage disposal you could always use the Fedo to clean up behind you.
Mind you, if you're bothered with smell you might not want to use these little creatures. But as said, ventilate the area well, make sure it is on a closed circuit and your ship will remain quite clean. They do wonders on my barge. Fear not this night. You will not go astray. Paste - could work.

What's wrong with you people, is this the throwaway generation or what. It's a spaceship costing millions of ISK, you don't just change it over for another one like a bent plastic fork. It just smells a bit, it's not like the thing has structural problems that make it a write-off.

The point is to get rid of the stench, not augment it with a different stench.
Fedos are disgusting. I don't want my ship to smell like Rens. |

Why not?
It's a spaceship costing millions of ISK after all. If I am to spend that much, I am going to make damned sure that I am happy with my purchase. If you mend and make do, you only end up paying out more in time and ISK to set things right.

I'm sure it won't take me millions of ISK to get rid of a smell.
I bought it at a cheap price kind of on the understanding that it wasn't perfect. For me to whine about the cost aspect after the fact seems silly. |

Just as a word of caution, I would not spend any more time in that ship until a toxology expert has determined that the ship is not currently poisoning you. Biological agents (or whatever might have killed the original occupants) can be extremely dangerous, and hazardous chemicals do not necessarily leave behind a smell. Depending on the toxologist, the cleaning supplies and expenses, and the time this could take, you might be better off reselling it and purchasing a new one. |

My crew reckon that the stuff I've already used is "medical grade", but maybe that just means "sick enough to put you in a hospital".

You capsuleers love your drama, don't you. Too many holoreels, you guys.
I realise that most people who start threads here post a lot of drama to make themselves seem more important, usually about how they're the third half-cousin of the Empress and then they got ostracised from the family for taking too much crash and then fell in with a traveling Brutor from Pator who turned out to be an escaped slave and then they both got arrested and tortured because the slave had seen parts to a secret new Amarr ship design and while this happened both their families got killed by some mysterious space pirates and now they're out for revenge if only they could decipher the mysterious markings left on the Brutor's skin by the torturers which are rumoured to be some kind of code... but my threads aren't like that.
I'm just a regular capsuleer who flies a ship like anybody else and it's just a simple smell in a cargo hold. Everybody chill and just recommend some cleaning product or where I can get it cleaned thank you.
And no more "new ship" suggestions. I kind of like the AI on this one. |

I'm not even sure if the original giblets that I cleaned out of there were human anyway. I didn't care to look that closely, I just noticed a few gibs and said "right, crew, clean that stuff". Could have just been a livestock accident - sometimes people don't secure their livestock properly and then they cram their hold completely full, and things jostle around in there in flight and the animals get crushed. I suppose I should talk to my crew and find out exactly what they removed from there, I did ask one of them to take an inventory but I'm sure it's nothing all that interesting which is why I haven't gotten around to it. |
