How do I create a bookmark in space? And how do i get to manual piloting mode so that I can place my bookmarks where I want them? |

All you do to manual pilot is double-click in space in the direction you want to go. Use propulsion modules as needed. But you don't manual pilot to make bookmarks.
To make bookmarks, open your People and Places section of the Neocom and have Places open. There will be a button there to save a location. Click it so that a Save Location window comes up. Leave that window open. Now pick two things in space to warp between -- two planets, a gate and the sun, a station and planet, whatever. Somewhere in between those two objects, save your location.
You've just saved an aligned bookmark. Go in and edit its name so you know it's aligned - aligned means that the bookmark is aligned between two objects in the system, or in other words, along the warp path between them. If you want to create a safe spot in the system that is not along such a path, you will start from this aligned bookmark and warp to objects, dropping more bookmarks.
These are called "unaligned safe spots" and they are what you what you want to aim to be making. You will want to check them afterwards to make sure that they are not in fact aligned to something. |

Sweet, I was wondering if this was possible. I found all the throttle/movement commands, but wasn't sure how to just move off in a given direction without requiring a target.
That's a really helpful reply, thank you!

There are some bookmarks you will want to make without warping.
1. Straight warp bm = just undock and let your ship continue in a straight line for several hundred klicks. This bookmark is useful if you are in a wardec and need to get out. Undocking and choosing to warp straight to your bm means little to no alignment time and a quick warp. Use this only in very agil ships though. ** Keep in mind to warp maybe 30 to 70 away from your bm so the enemy does not see your real distance. Cloaky ships are great with this as you can cloak up before you reach your bm and they will also not know your distance.
2. As you grow in your skills having bookmarks around home stations are good. For instance logistics ships can repair other ships. The distance they can maintain for safety and still repair ships is rather good. So creating bm's for them in case you are logi above, below, aside a station are helpful.
3. Off grid bm's. You can only warp so far in a system. Sometime you can choose a distance that is farthest from the sun and then point in the opposite direction and just prop mod your way for hours upon hours. This will create a bm that is out of D-scan range of other players, and sometimes even probe range because they don't move their probes far out. These take a long time, but can be the best safe spots ever.
Happy flying :) I'm not a carebear... I'm a SPACE BARBIE!-á Now... where's Ken? |
