I look at the new recon ships and I see the same ECM bonuses for minmatars as on their old ships. Those "target painting" bonuses ...
Amarrians can use tracking disruptors, gallentians can use dampeners, caldarians can use jammers. All these devices are good to defend your own ship as well as to harm your enemy. Looks like Minmatar is the only race with unique bonuses that in fact do no harm to enemies.
Isn't that illogical that minmatar race has no bonuses for tracking disruptors? With the worst weapon tracking they should have spent a lot of money to make their scientists work hard and invent tracking disruptors I believe :)
Those target painting ships cannot help much in gang. Ships of any other race can be very effective in gang though.

I'd MUCH rather have my sig radius boosting abilities for my vigil than anything else. Nothing says pwned like three tech two painters in a gang of snipers :) Although, I normally play fleet combat, instead of trying to ubar-solo everything. Better company :)

They should still have something more defencive than painters ... i fyou play your cards right dampners/ECM/disruptors can keep you alive better than a tank ... painters just mean other people hit hard :|

Painters ROCK. On Test server I usually get a good 20% damage bonus using one.

I think the argument being made is they will do nothing to save your ship. Disruptors cause the enemy to miss, dampners can make some ships utterly useless, along with ECM. Painters do nothing to affect the enemies ability to fire. I personally will probably train caldari cruiser 5 just for their badassery

painters 4tw, i fit my vigil with 2 280's, 3 painters, 3 gyro's and that thing hurts with the new damage bonus for vigils and stacking changes plus the painters make hitting inties much easyer for you and your buddies.
i would imagine that a bellicose with 3 720's 4 painters and 3 gyro's is also quite a good sniper with its new bonus.

Lester, we've killed our slavers time ago. We can even read now :) Read above - "painters help to hit", "snipers", etc. I'm not talking about snipers. I'm just saying any other ECM weapon renders the enemies of your gang almost helpless. Fast and effective. I'd prefer to have one good dampener in gang than two men with painters. Especially if the gang hits well enough without painters.

I'd say painter is not an ECM (Electronic CounterMeasures) device at all. Let's see: with jammers you can counter enemy weapons, with dampeners you can counter enemy weapons, with tracking disruptors you can counter enemy weapons. With painters you can counter what? Your own bad tracking? :) But you already have tracking computers, enchancers, gyros. So we have a "weapon upgrades" category module here, not an ECM one.

Maybe targetpainters should get the added bonus of also increasing the signature resolution of the guns on the targeted ship. They would have a harder time hitting you, akin to, although not to the same extend as, tracking disruptors.
