Originally by: Rod Blaine I'd say CCP needs to cap concurrent online players at 15K untill they finally get some better performance going.
What about that ?
I don't have lag. I'd bet the only ones who do are in Rens, Ours or other 150+ people systems.
Untill they completely remove any highways, we'll be stuck with those heavy populations. And untill they upgrade to 64bit servers, fleet battles of more than 100 people will be rather impossible to handle. So, avoid either untill then.
I think the 64bit servers aregoing to help a lot though....
Probably, but you have noticed the fact tha tthose ownt be in in the next 4 months probably ?
PLayer count rising steadily, new expansion in a few weeks, holiday season with many new players = 17K will be not so special a month from now.
So, prepare for some horrid months ahead before CCP completes testing and actually implements the improved technology...
I mean, ive seen promises and promises, imporvement after improvement announced, yet lag and playability have done nothing but detiriorate in the last year and a half.
How come ?
CCP moves to slow to improve, that's why. And tbh, i see no indication they are moving much faster now then they were before. Same words and same plans as always...
Again, no lag on my side. Currently im 1j from Rens, and while it may be hell in there, i have no problems here in Odatrik.
Lag is concentrated on overloaded nodes, not on the entire server. There can certainly be at least 40k people in in it's entirety, they just have to avoid clogging up 2 or 3 systems with 5k people.....
That counts for the blob war fanatics too :P

I wish everybody would stop congratulating each other, and CCP, on new player records each week. 18,000+ players is NOT an good thing if the servers canĘt handle the load. Any IT related organisation of this size should have a certain amount of redundancy built in to their servers for just such an occasion, especially one generating so much money from subscribers. I shouldnĘt have to stay away from Rens I like being in Rens its where I make most of my ISK. So personally I wont be cheering about player records until CCP dig a bit deeper into their pockets and build some better servers. I used to keep and open mind but my brain kept falling out. |

It scares the hell out of me, playability is suffering as is. Is RMR going to be moving the agents around? Or is that move planned in a future release?

Complete n00b here, it's my first night - great to see I helped break the record as well :-) Quick question, how come Rens is so popular? (I was there as well, just wondering).

That's your problem for not wanting to leave Rens. I haven't seen a bit of lag all day. Want to know why? Because I am in one of the other 98% of eve zones that doesn't currently have 300ish in it.

Welcome to EVE!
Months ago there used to be something like 10 or so Empire systems that everyone and their mother's stayed in, mostly because you were able to travel between them, and Empires, quickly because of "highways" between them. This encouraged trade between Empires because it was quick and easy to get to your friends who play in Caldari space if you played in Gallente space.
Than things started to lag. The devs wanted to push^H^H^H^Hencourage people to go get ganked, erm, experience EVE in 0.0 so they removed all these "highways" between Empires. A trip that might have taken 5-7 jumps before was now 15-20 jumps. They claimed this would make people go into 0.0 (it didn't) and help relieve lag (it didn't).
So now instead of having 10 or so pretty laggy systems, we have 3 unplayably laggy systems because where we used to be able to quickly and easily go somewhere else if it got laggy, there's now a 20 jump+ nightmare of a trip to look forward to. Add to this the fact that many of these systems have level I, II, III and IV agents in them, with IN SYSTEM missions.. plus "safe" mining for macro mining jerks, you've got a log of lag on your hands. -- Lil Miner |

It's a centre system between southern and northern regions. It has several lvl 4 agents. It's high sec. It got quite a few stations. It's got pretty short routes to some 0.0 areas.

Wow, the macro miners are really making an effort to open new accounts.
Wonder when the number of macro alts will surpass the number of actual players? We're well on the way to that, it seems...
