I love the graphics I have seen however I'd like to know is there any point to exploring at all? I mean I have no problem with low level space (even as a newbie) because its all part of the challange of exploring.
Are there are weird things in certain zones? I tried a few of the captains logs but nothing was there.
Any monoliths? Black holes? Space whales? binary star systems? :)

I remember in one of the dev blogs, they said they will make exploring profitable. Was that going to be in RMR? -------- "Yet we still hug the dear Deceit" - N. Cotton |

its called New Eden i believe kind of in the middle of the map and up out of the plain part of the Amarr empire but yeah there is lots of stuff to explore and on the map ther is an option to iew landmark locations but many of them you have to find within the system

There is a black monolith in orbit around a moon in one of the systems around New Eden as well, can't rememebr the system name off by hand. It must be CCP's homage to kubrick .....

To answer the orignal question..no there really isn't any exploring in EVE. (Everyone wants to shoot you instead of figure things out) Yeah this and many similar disccusions were held in the first year of the game. Most of the junk was pretty much eye candy at first. Then came all these objects in space along with deadspace. (But still was mostly eye candy, or extra junk to blow up) Now as to how this archeaology will work and what future endeavors (some sort of exploring) will come from it..that remains to be seen.
Until then it seems only the Jove do any real exploring...but that is into the galaxy's past, for reasons few know why.

I made a point, during an unproductive phase, of exploring most of the locations in the EVE Chronicles and stories. Most are unimpressive. But City of God and Crielere, and a few others, have some things worth seeing. ------ I generally assume the following: 1. 95% of Empire Carebears don't get 0.0 PVPers. 2. 95% of 0.0 PVPers don't get Empire Carebears. 3. 100% of Ore Thieves steal just to upset the Miners. |

Edited by: Amataras on 04/12/2005 21:59:21 Eve has mirrored the process seen in America during the 1700s and 1800s - the areas that were once frontiers are now more often than not densely populated, mostly with alliances waging war and strip mining belts
The devs are working on introducing new tactical enviroments such as nebulae for Kali so i think this problem of having little to explore will be solved eventually.

Ehhh?

I didn't mean that America had alliances and wars, just that it's more densely populated in places that were once frontiers. Maybe i worded that wrong

Apparently if you head out to some 0.0 systems on the very east of the universe you can see a blackhole, or at least thats what the description of the landmark says.
On a more serious note, there are stuff to explore, although most are unintential, such as hidden belts where player pirates cant bother you (unless they use probes), or some hidden deadspace complexes (which are mostly junk anyway) But who knows, maybe one of these days you may strike gold.

Edited by: EC Skelton on 04/12/2005 23:57:07 *science hat* isn't it technically impossible too see a black hole?
EDIT: Spporting quote "By definition, you can't see a black hole at all... again not even light can escape from within the event horizon. Interestingly, though, black holes warp space so much that if you could orbit a black hole close to the event horizon, you could see the back of your own head... light reflecting from the back of your head would get bent around the black hole so that you could see it."

You can see it in the same way you can "see" a hurricane. In other words you can tell its there because it bends light.

Well i'm no physicist but i doubt light bending around it will help you see it either. I'm welcome to hear more information from other people though and i know that there are many more informed peeps lurking around the forums

Yes you can.
Imagine looking at a star through a telescope, when a black hole is between you and the star you can clearly measure it.
Well known fact
