I was wondering if industrial ships can haul other ships? I mean the basic industial ships that are cheap and can be used with low industrial ship skills? I'd like to haul a couple of ships to another area and base them in another base for mining purposes. Just got mining 4 and I figured i'd head over to some 0.6 sec area, use my stabber to clear the belt, then use my scythe to mine.
thanks for all replies

Simply put yes.
Check the ship info on the one you want to haul. They will have a packaged sizing in m3 in brackets by the volume. Frigates for example pack down to 2500m3, cruisers to 10k m3. ------------------ Dad (noun) - someone who's wallet now contains a picture where his money once was. |

Ahhh, now I see why you qualified it with "simply put". All of the basic industrial ships could never haul 10,000 anything but they could just barely hold a frigate packaged. So, it's sol on hauling a packaged cruiser. Oh well, i'll figure something out.
I guess I could try the dock and pod method but i'm wondering about the risk factor in this. Is this tricky?

the funny part is, just buy alot of shuttles, get a giant indy, repackage the shuttles and load them.
then once you're in space, jettison the shuttles :D

a tech 1 industrial can haul over 10k m3 just so you know, just use cargo expanders under, hull and armor/hull upgrades on the market.

Oh yeah, I wasn't thinking about cargo expanders. I'll give it a try when I can afford a decent industrial ship. Maybe one with 5500 capacity, then load it up with expanders.
There are so many options in this game it can quickly become overwhelming. Especially with so many skills and nested skills for various ship parts. But, i'm enjoying it. Been in game under a week and managed to get into a decent cruiser and i'm now able to run level 2 missions with little effort. I've been a pack rat, keeping every single ship part I get from missions and every ship I bought from day 1, so i've got millions in spare parts and ships and a couple of million of isk. Just got my first implant from storyline missions.
But, since I researched mining to 4, I was gonna switch gears for a bit and do some medium sec mining. All in all a fun game.

An Iteron V with the best expanders can hold about 23k m^3. That's plenty of room to haul a couple cruisers or several frigs.
Even with stock expandesr you can haul a cruiser and a couple frigs.

When you repackage a ship, all the cargo and modules get popped out and placed in the main hangar. Make sure you collect those and take them with you too, otherwise you'll either have to buy replacement gear locally or make the return trip anyways. |

Easiest way to do this would be to buy two shuttles and load them in your indy. Fill the rest of the space up with any spare mods you might need and your mining/ratting setups. Drop off your stuff at the new base, then fly back in your old base. Collect the Stabber, fit it for speed (Afterburner, fill the low slots with overdrives and nanofibers) and take it to the new base too. Rinse and repeat for the Scythe.
Training up the <Race> Industrial skill will give you cargo capacity bonus on your indy, so you will eventually probably want to train it to level 4 or so.
