Wasn' this skill supposed to add 5 drones per level, anyone know why they changed this?

Eh, cuz they are CTD Machines? They didn't want that many per person being used? It was an error?

I have no clue. If it used to be 5 per level, then I now understand why one of the battleships has 5000 drone cargo space.

Interfacing does 1 extra drone per lvl that you can control. Atm the max drones you can control is 10. The reason for the large bays is that you can only control 10, but that doesnt stop you from putting more than 1 kind of drone in the drone bay. This lets someone switch drone types to combat different instances(mining/combat).

Heavy drones are already 250m3, my Apoc only holds 6 (life's tough)

My Dom has a cavernous bay (5250 m3), but it makes sense that the reason for it is to carry a full load of 10 mining drones (plus replacements) and 10 combat drones (plus replacements). With the new patch, drones come under fire pretty quickly from NPC pirates, so losing them is a guarantee. With a smaller bay, when they are gone u need to go to a station and replace or do without. I just launch another one :)

I think one of the reasons it was reduced from 5 per level to 1 per level is because of the lag they can cause.

They should just have the option of unloading the 3d models for big battles.

Combine that x3 (ex. the mythical creature had 3 heads) you could immediatelly call it, the Cerberus tactic!

AFAIK, Drone Interfacing has always added 1 drone per level, up to a total of 10 drones.. atleast since I've been using heavy drones, and that's been for about a month now.

I dont think it would help ,the problem is the server side lag,and the amount of information regarding speed,location,damage and some more that need to be exchanged between cleint and server would remain the same in 2d models and 3 d models.2d models would help only on client side lag,simple framerate, but i think anyway most players have nowdays computers that can handle it easily,so it wouldnt help mauch.

In beta Drone Interfacing gave +5 Drones per level. But when the game went live, it was reduced to +1.
One thing I noticed is that during beta, Textures were not as detailed. I rember looking at my Velator and going "damn, these textures are blurry". This was GOOD though. I had absolutely no lag when mining in a group of 10 with 4 mining drones per ship. And I was using a GeForce 256 with 32MB of RAM on it. Once game went live, I noticed all the pretty textures and was like WOW, this looks great, but changed my opinion once i noticed the lag. I had to upgrade to a GeForce 4600 just to run the game OK. Still have lagg when mining.
Wish the kept the textures LOW so that I could enjoy the gameplay, not laggy, althoug pretty pictures.

Kozak like I wrote above graphics dont play in most cases any role in Eve lag.The lag is server side,it has nothing to do with graphics on the client.All that matters is the amuont of data that is exchanged between client and server, and graphis doesnt matter at all.If you got a crappy looking ship or a superb detailed ship ,tha amount of data that needs to be exchanged between client and server is the same( about location,speed ,current actions ...).
So even if you got now a pentium 10 , geeforce 10, and T1 internet connection you would have now as much lag as you have with a modest athlon XP 2000+ GF4 and ADSL internet. The lag is server side.
The only think that could help is the upgrade of their server wich is highly unpropable in my opinion,or modifing the net code.
But anyway CCP are magicians to run 5k-6k users on same server with at most time minor lag.Nobody achieved this or anything close before i think.

So that's why I had *3* FPS (three!) when watching the Fountain fights? Server-side lag? I don't think so.

The lag you get when you come out of warp into an asteroid field or a heavily populated area is due to your computer initialising all the graphics on the screen more then any bandwidth related lag.

If its your client lag ,then number of persons online shouldnt make any difference,and in my case it the main lag factor.

Who says it's ended? Back to the issue of drones. I'd like to agree that currently it's mainly for backups. If nothing else the ships would be unbelievably unbalanced if a Dom. could command all of that drone space at once. I can't picture much standing up to the massive amount of Drones whizzing around. We don't want to make the game boring through excessive onesided battles.

I totally aggress with Earthan comments, ive changed my gamming machine from laptop to PC(Alien Ware) 3 ghz p3 1ghz 3500 ddr RAM Geforce FX 5900 256 ultra
but i still feel the same lag as i used to have on my laptop .

Dunno where the 5 drones per level idea came from. At the end of beta it was most certainly 1 drone per level. I'm quite sure because I went cruiser hunting in my Megathron during armageddon and used 10 drones for it, with Drones 5/Drone Interfacing 5. Perhaps very very early beta..
