I have only been playing for two days now and find the interface or lack of interface with my ship very boring. Perhaps Manuel docking and Cokpit views would be better. I hate the only external view. I just seams to me that in a game that is trying to create total realism, only having an external view just blows it all.

I dont think the point of the game is to create total realism. Wheres the fun in that? :) As for external views, its just my opinion, but around 90% of the game is played externally, from combat, to selecting objects in space etc etc so besides manual docking and occasionaly looking at the inside of your ship I dont see the point. I tend to think of EVE as a 3rd person space RPG. Its like asking "why cant I look through the eyes of my Diablo character"?. <- just not practical at the end of the day.
PS how do you appreciate the pretty backgrounds and the immensity of the space from inside a ship?

There is no flight deck, you are seeing what your pilot sees.

No offence intended, but once you have been playing for a wile you eill find that the view is very good and you would not have time to fly the ship in the way you ask.
However,
It would be fun to do a 1 v 1 using a joy stick and trigger but that is not going to happen.

In the unlikely scenerio that a*****pit view were enabled, it would not happen until planetary fight (and flight), which while the devs seem to be very interested in adding, I find it incredibly unlikely that it will ever make it into the game.
However, I would really like to be able to lock my camera in a certain position revalitve to my ship, say behind it and slightly to the right or something, to help with navigation during battles, not to mention how the potential for awesome fraps. I imagine this would be very easy to add, and would be tickled pink to see it, however I'm not holding my breathe.

I would love to have the ability to fly with a joy stick but, have you ever noticed that when you use the double click to change the direction your moving takes a little while to respond.
Now imagine flying with a joystick, I think ill go direction A, wait no now ill go direction B now ohh bugger my ships turning towards direction A now. so i might as well go that way now so you turn towards direction A and then all of a sudden your ship turnÆs towards direction B. So on and so forth it would be a nightmare.
Does anybody else see that problem in that?

Why not have the WASD keys as slow pan left/right/up/down and the spacebar as the reset to behind ship for quick checks on direction your ship is actually flying to.

Galroy these are not small ships. To get a decent sense of scale of these ships check out this link: RMR Ship Scale Thread
Even the smallest ships, frigates are huge in comparison to fighter planes. Maybe when they add the planetary flight to the game they can make smaller ships that will allow wasd flight but it will be extremely difficult to do due to internet latency issues.
