Now, i dont want any flaming for bringing this up. I was just curious on the difference.
I'm currently running a Blaster Proteus and i project ok damage up to about 30km which isnt bad.
I'm usually drone bunny and get within 5-15km of the frigates in Vanguard incursions. They go down reletively fast. But every once in awhile i need to get out to that 30km range in which my damage goes down hill quickly.
Was curious though on the damage potential of a HAM Legion. I know it would do more damage against ships out there at the 30km range than the blasters but would it still be effective against the ships in the 5-15km range? Even if i fit webs and TP?
Please dont give the excuse "oh derp there is missile flight time". At 5km range, i could give two licks about missile flight time :) |

You sir are either lying or delusional.

Pretty much that. Why waste mids on target painters when you can just shoot stuff? Also, HAMs have a damage projection of about 20kms or so, rather limiting. HAM Legion for pvp, HPL Legion for incursions. - Leopold Caine, Domination Malakim ___________________________ Angels are never far... Stillwater Corporation recruitment open. |

Not so much "lying". I said "ok" damage.. not great. 2x optimal range scripts, optimal range link from oni and Null ammo i can get my fallout to about 27-28km. The reason i started this thread was to figure out a different way of dealing better damage at that range, without sacrificing my close range DPS.
I tried running with the pulse legion but it feels like the Proteus seems to chew up the frigs much faster than it. Although i do like being able to shoot out to 50km with scorch :).
And i wont nessessarly be wasting mids with TPs because i would just be replacing the tracking computer with them.

T3s just aren't needed in incursions. 9 Paladins 2 Onieroses and call it done. Alternatively, if you find a fleet willing/able to pay attention, 11 spider-tanked battleships can work nicely as well. |

Listen.. I'm not here to argue fleet logistics and composition in incursions. I've been running incursions for almost a year with a crew and there are always 1-2 T3's to clean up the frigates quickly. Makes for clearing waves fast and doing the entire site in just under 5 minutes.
I am here to talk about DPS differences between two ships. Please dont comment on anything else but that. |

HAM legion just doesnt get the damage projection a ham tengu does (20km optimal vs 44km optimal) You have to seriously gimp your fit to make it work.
HPL Legion can hit out to 40km for full dps with scorch, And still allows for a target painter.
The proteus just is a bad overall choice... Its ewar bonus isnt useful in pve and damage projection is meh. At that point you could prob try a rail proteus and alpha the frigates but it really wont be worth the effort.

Thank you!
This is what i wanted to see. Like i said, i do like the HPL Legion as that is what i'm currently using along with the proteus. Duel web proteus however still seems like a logical choice for them frigates under 15km as i can just about 3 shot them. I guess i will have to do some dps comparison with my fleet to see which make for the faster run times; Long range dps or short range high dps.
Thanks again for your post and i will avoid HAMs :) |

^What he said,
You should contact some of the more experienced incursion communities and learn their strategies for vanguard sites.
A blaster web vindicator can finish off frigs twice as fast as both of the above, and then project their INSANE DPS (1300) onto battleship and cruisers. |
