I have about even skills for Amaar/Gallente/Caldari (Frig 3 for Gall, Cruise 1 for Amaar, Cruise 3 for Caldari) and I'm wondering what would be a good race for the large ships class and what would be a good race to train for smaller ships. I have low skills now so it would be easy to train new skills.

They all have their advantages and disadvantages. Train what you feel that you would like, not what is best.

The only thing i can tell you for sure is gallente have pwnage AF's and pretty good cruisers.
The rest is controversial.

Im thinking primarily PVP. I was thinking of going gall for samll stuff but what about BC/C/BS?

Prophecy for BC, Thorax/Maller/BB for cruisers (actually, as long as its plated with a 1600mm, its pretty good, cept for BB).
For BS - Raven/Apoc (with the upcoming changes in mind)

geese there is no best ship for a class, any ship can beat another depending on pilot skill and setups

Caldari or Amarr for BS. Gallente for C (till the rax is nerfed in about a week, then probably Amarr or Caldari again). Amarr for BC. Caldari for CovOps. Amarr for HAC. All have good intys. Havn't played with AFs to make a good analysis of them, I hear Gallente have good ones though, but Caldari are good from what I've seen too, havn't seen the others enough to comment.

Thanks for your guys help. I'm glad I started training Amaar. One last unrelated question. What is a good ore to mine in 0.0 to make money from Miner II's and whats a good Caldari/Amaar ship setup (caldari BC and below, Amaar C and below) to do this.

The best pvp characters I see are a mix of gallente/caldari. Maybe I'm just biased, but they use a lot of the same skills, and between the two you have some great flexibility.
Raven's the best solo bs in the game, and Dom's a close second, and the megathron is a top notch fleet bs.
The hacs are all four useful though the deimos is kind of *** compared to the eagle.
The Afrigs are adequate - the ishkur should be the best in game after the patch, and the enyo/harpy are decent. The Hawk is an underrated EW platform, with good solid CPU and 4 mids. And very very cheap (6-8mil on the open market).
The inties are a bit sub par but they have their niches.
The combat cruisers are also a bit sub par, but their EW cruisers are phenoms - the celestis & blackbird can both easily shut down 2-3 battleships of any sort.
The Gallente dread is arguably the best.
The Gallente carriers are definitely the best.
I can't imagine why you'd want to play Amarr unless you just don't like using ammo - in that case, you can use an Ishtar or Dominix though, so again, why? Their dps is good, cap is good, but they have crappy mid slots and no real tricks other than shooting.
In multidimensional warfare, Gallente and Caldari are the best. Pick one of those.

I was in a similar situation recently, but between amarr and minmatar. I chose minmatar for their unpredictability. It is hard to tell what a minnie pilot might be flying compared to an amarr, and surprise can easily equal a win.
Currently I agree with Mallik however, in that caldari and gallente appear to be the best choices. One for ew, the other for just about everything else.

Ok I guess i'll use Gall for AF and Int. I'm looking for good allround (group and solo) good BC/C/HACs to use primarily for PVP. Do gall have any non EW solo BS/C? In another thead everyone was complaining about how the Mega was terrible now.

I currently fly an Ishkur and i have drone interfacing and assault ships at level 5. whilst it's not the best AF at the moment (although still pretty damn good) it will be so much more powerful after red moon rising. the damage per second should be pretty damn good with 4 tech II Hammerhead drones, +25% drone damage from the new drone firepower skill, +100% drone damage from interfacing 5, +10% for gallente drone spec.
Yay, Gallente ishkur ftw.

I've always been partial to Caldari AFs due to the Harpy, but Ishkur and Enyo are said by quite a few to be better ships. Still with only 700k in gunnery, my Harpy seems to do a decent job of wtfpwning lots of stuff, but that 0 em resist on shields sucks.

My best advice: Don't listen to anyone about these things. Not everyone have tried every battleship in the game extensively, so most everyone will give you biased answers on which ship they have flown the most. Some thread saying the Mega sucks? Ignore it, it is just full of people who wants to use it in ways that doesn't fit their skills and the ship design. People saying the Apoc is the best BS? Yeah, if you like Amarr and tanking, it probably is.
In the end, the one thing that matters is your preference. If you like a particular race in general, chance is you'll like all of it's high performance ships. The current "best ship" will change every 2 months, so just stick with one thing you like and stick with it until you get bored with it. Don't listen to the yes men that only agrees with the latest thread because the original poster is popular.
(oh, and get 100% Gallente, that stuff is teh pwn! I can barely fly anything else.)
