i just read a thread on a site where they compared diffrent MMOs size to eachothers...
just wondering if there any number how big eve in in square meters or meters cubed... ____________ The cargo bay is overloaded and cannot be made to fit Expanded Cargohold I. It is currently only capable of fitting 8772.12 units and it is currently jammed full with 9558.33 units. |

I figure one system i EVE is as big as every other MMO combined... Since in EVE you have all 3 axis as well as the systems dont end. Before they fixed things you could go out to 1000 au away from any structure in teh system. So really EVE is infinately bigger in terms of m3 than any other MMO...

What do you mean exactly? The size of the servers?

Or the game world? Game world would be measured in Lightyears cubed.

infinity^2 ?
in theory you can move endlessly in one direction in a solar system.
and given there are ~5000 systems in eve, and these systems run from 10 till 180+ au in diameter ( where 1 au = 149 598 000km), sooo, forget about world of warcraft being big..., you could fit 4000000 "azeroths" or probably more in ONE system in eve and still have space to spare. (given the "normal" size of thes systems, as in from the 2 farthest celestial objects in each system)
edit: eh 400, I was being optimisting, and I still think I'm being optimistic with the 4000000 number

Well, if EVE were an entire galaxy, and that galaxy happened to be the same size as The Milky Way, it'd be about 3.2 x 10^51 cubic miles. ---

I'm sure WoW would be able to compete if there was nothing in between all their major cities.
Really pointless comparison.

Edited by: Core Bash on 08/12/2005 02:20:15 Open spaces in EVE and other MMORPGS are too different to compare. Who cares that EVE can fit X amount of WoW worlds in one system when each system has seamingly identical suns, planets, moons, asteroids, and stations.
If you want to measure the size of actual content I'd say that EVE is on the low end of the scale. From what I've been told complexes/dungeons in other games are MUCH more massive than in EVE.
So, not to play Devil's Advocate, but I'm under the impression that EVE is on the low end of the scale when it comes to square measurements of unique content inside practical travelable space.
Who cares that a system is 100 AU's across when the only important part is the 15km gate sprint when you come out of warp?
On a side note, it might be interesting if someone came up calculations that went something like this: Scale an average ship in EVE to a character in WoW (since the whole "KM" thing is relative anyway). Then compare ratios including the speed of characters versus ships, practical space travelable, etc. It might produce some interesting concepts.
The last thing I want to hear is that a character in WoW, when scaled to the size of my Taranis, could outrun my Gistii MWD.

Since Jumpgate worked on the same system, EVE is only as big as Jumpgate :)
