Now, I know I have a few pet peeves, and this has become one of them, but still.
I often see the term Pubbies used to describe Highsec dwellers in this game.
According to the urban online dictionary that word has 2 meanings
1) Public school student.
2) Pubic hair.
Now. I am neither of these, and I seriously doubt those that use the term are using the former of the two meanings.
Therefore i take it as a rather harsh insult that I, and a large portion of the community are being referred to as Pubic Hairs by so many people.
We have just as much right to play this game the way we wish as you do, and to do so without being insulted in such a manner.
What is perhaps even more unfathomable is the fact that our supposed lead representative to CCP uses this term on a regular basis. such an impressive way to represent the entire community there. insulting the larger portion of it with almost every post he makes.
I play in a small corp / alliance on most of my toons, a small group of good friends i have made since i began playing. Yes, that small group is mostly made up of highsec RP types, but they are good people, and do not deserve the insult that is constantly levelled at them.

Its a goonswarm term that means "the general public", it originated on somethingaweful.com, their home site. It is implied in the word that you are talking about people of lower intelligence who are tightly constrained by social etiquette that is irrelevant in the setting the word is being used in.
Blind pubblies who don't know what the word pubblie means have coopted the word to use on other pubbies in much the way I would use the word scrub.
I don't think they really understand the deep irony in that. |
