I could almost cry , 1.28million skill points down the drain. Can anyone explain to me how the reduction in maximum drones controlable by any one player to 5 rather than the 10 I can control now will be compensated for in the new Red Moon Rising version of the game. Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with this reduction if it is going to reduce the lag in the game but it will make me have to review the way I operate my mining barge, the comfort of having two squadrons of drones that I could direct on to the rats as I mined away in 0.5 space was well worth the training time, and there was something comfortably cymetrical about two groups of five as opposed to a group of two and a group of three. As you can imagine this took me a while to train up as it is a rank 5 skill and I now think I would have been better off spending the time on my gunnery or electronics skills. CCP, can I have my skill points re-funded or is this skill bonus going to be changed to an increased damage or drone performance bonus in some way, if anyone knows the answer could you let me know so that I can sleep nights, (which is not a good thing as I'm on nightshift at the moment)

I think you get an extra 20% damage per level of drone interfacing.
It pretty much means you dont lose out at all. Those lil bastards are going to hit freakishly hard now.

You can use half as many drones, you can hold half as many drones, your drones are twice as effective.
Strangely enough, I don't think you're losing here...

Thanks for the replies, hmmmm two times as much damage per drone, that would make the T2 drones real killers, looking forward to releasing one or two of them on a ceptor trying to sneak up behind me in the dark when flying my BS. I have read that the drones will have increased signature radius and so will be easier to lock and hit, 1 drone killed will be 20% of my overall defensive capabilities as opposed to 10%, so I think in the long run this will be a loss, I will have to wait and see if I can afford to split the drones up and have them attack multiple targets or not, as the target lock range of a big barge is only 23Km it is essentially a race against time to get rats locked and destroyed before they can get close in and start ripping into your armour. Secondly you want every ship to be locked on the barge to make sure that they are not damaging your drones which may have to last for multiple re-spawns, IÆll have to get a remote repair module fitted to my hauler PDQ. I read the T2 barge is a little tougher so perhaps it will let me shield tank (more mid slots) and give me longer to deal with the rats. I think I have gone slightly off the skills topic so IÆll stop now, thanks again for the responses.

ôI have read that the drones will have increased signature radius and so will be easier to lock and hit, 1 drone killed will be 20% of my overall defensive capabilities as opposed to 10%, so I think in the long run this will be a loss,ö ItÆs the other way around drones are harder to hit. Signature radius is not being changed and with the new skills and modules 5 new drones will do more damage and have more hitpoints then 10 old drones. On top of that you have a much longer range and the drones are faster so they are harder to hit.

Actually, I'm looking forward to these changes especially for my barge. I'll fly with 5 lights and 5 mining drones in the hold. With the additional bonuses (or is it new skills?) for light and medium drones, I'm thinking I can take my barge into 0.4 and get away with it.
The only ones I reckon are going to get hurt by the new drones changes are those that fly the ships with drones bonuses. Everyone seems to get a bit of a buff.

It's signature resolution (not radius) that is being changed. It's going to be harder to use heavy drones on smaller ships.

What happens to mining drones? Twice the yield?

The only thing lost on drones is the max number you can deploy. You gain in speed, lethality, hit points, etc. Plus for some ships (like the Domi), you can actually carry one extra "wave". Currently, you can only carry two, after you can carry 3.
Mining drones are also effected, they have more yield.
Basicly, the bottom line is that drones are meant to have roughly the same killing/mining power in less numbers than we currently have in greater numbers. If you have not yet trained drone interfacing 5, better get busy and pray the testers keep finding bugs to delay the patch!

People with high drone Interfacing will be compensated, according to the DevBlog "tux does the math on drones".
Dominix now: 15 drones with maxed skills. Dominix after the changes 5 Drones with 20% Extra Damage/Mining Yield per Drone Interfacing Level and with 20% extra Damage/Mining Yield per Level of Dominix Ship bonus.
Drone bay will be halfed and fractions rounded up. Dominix now: Room for 30 Heavy Drones = 2 Waves of Drones. Dominix after: 15 Heavy Drones = 3 Waves of drones
Large Barage now: 20 small drones 10 Mining/10 light drones. Large Barage after: 10 small drones 5/5 miner/scouts (Remember Drones will be 20% better per Level Drone Interfacing and have increased hitpoints.)
Drones become more dureable and there are new Drone Skills on the Test-Server out now, that increase speed, range etc. for drones.
At first I was quite disappointed, too. But after rethinking the whole thing, the only backdraw is: I see only 5 drones dancing with my dominix instead of 15. And that is the whole problem: if you walk 15 drones everyone and hIr sybling can see, that you are the drone expert in here. (Ever heard the whispering in the corp-channel, when you have polished the old harvester drones and pull out 15 of 'em on a corp-mining event? ) If you pull out only 5 Drones nobody can really see that you are the expert, unless you let the drones loose to eat!
See and being seen. With only 5 Drones you just do not look as good as you used to. -- bye, Ki Shodan

With drone interfacing V you should be able to train adv. drone interfacing and be able to fit drone control modules which will increase the drones controlled and drone interfacing V will also let you train for carriers -----------------------------
