I was just curious. I know that CCP recently (or very soon) will have passed 80,000 subscribers. With that said, is this on track with where CCP thought the game would be after two and a half years? Do the Devs look at the game and go "Dang, we are way more successful than we thought we would be at this point!" Or do the Devs look at the subscriber numbers today and think "Well, not bad, but we just aren't quite where we expected to be at this point. We had planned to have surpassed 100,000 subscribers by the second birthday."
I would also be curious to know just how long the Devs expect EVE to last. Do they start development on their next project in a year and a half, three years, five years...? Or is the time frame determined by when subscriber numbers peak and start heading in a downward trend?

They are probably just worried that they will sober up and find out Eve never even made it to retail. ______________________________________________

I did get a kick out of the fact that when EVE was on store shelves it did alright. Once CCP bought back the distribution rights it then really began to take off. How about that for disproving and shifting the distribution paradigms that exist in today's society.

I spoke to a few of the devs at the first fanfast in 2004 and asked such a question.
I can assure you their expectations have been more than meet in terms of active subscribers. For many the development of this game has been their lifes dream for over 10 years.
I think they are chuffed.

Being from the UK and being forced to stay up late, I noticed what I thought was a lot more americans. I checked corp/alliance and it was usual 75ish. I then flew threw empire and saw where then new players were. Its ******* tienemen square of npc covetors with player names of 'gffhhidfofh112' and junk like that.
Perhaps if they added SOMETHIGN to the game, ****, I can't think up one single chineese corp in eve. I for one cannot wait for that chinese server to open and I only pray to ******* god (ccp) that they make a new form of currency other than ISK on it!

Ahh yes, I can see how they would be 'very pleased'.
On another note, I do wonder just what kind of subscriber numbers EVE needed to achieve by what dates in order to keep the investors happy. If I remember correctly 100% of EVE is privately owned by various investors and investment companies. I would assume that they had certain expectations to be met in order to keep EVE from getting the plug pulled.

Wow, I have seen people post some pretty off topic stuff, but this takes the cake. You have proven that no thread is safe from macro-whiners. Please, for the love of all that is good in this world, take your whining elsewhere and allow this thread to stay on topic.

They won't move.
Their economy stinks, they farm virtual money and then sell it for western cash, which is worth alot more to them than us. Shutting up shop and moving to the china server wont work because they wont make anywhere near as much as they do now. They are here to stay until there is a way to remove them.
edit, oh yes, on topic! I would imagine they want EVE to last forever, which is entirely possible provided the player base supports them. They still have some pretty amazing things to deliver to us, and they're not gonna come in the very near future so they're definitely here for the long haul. And who can blame them. If it aint broke, don't fix it. And they obviously love their jobs so why not stretch it out as long as possible? I just hope we get more players paying them more money so they can pay more staff to make more stuff for us :D

Since china has laws govenring MMOG and since CCP is kowtowing to them and breaking Eve up, CCP damn well better implement IP blocks for Tranquility.

Here I am trying to critically analyze CCP from an intelligent perspective and this is what I get, macro-whining.
Thank you to those who posted constructive and helpful comments. I am going to bed in the hope that when I wake the thread shall have steered itself back on course.

It will last as long as CCP remains privatly owned. Please don't sell it to Sony. I know they will say "You will keep controll" but if you do, we will have ads for Coke within 3 months.
Keep EvE a secret.

I've got an idea--an idea so smart that my head would explode if I even began to know what I'm talking about

To be fair, it isn't a very intelligent analysis if you ignore one of the causes of expansion, and insulting those who do point it out only tarnishes the good intention you obviously had when you started this thread.
Now, I have no idea how many "macro" or "farming" accounts go towards the total, but to deny their existance would be an act of folly. Perversely, the presence of those accounts is a good indicator of Eve's success. ______________________________________________

And pay for every patch. RMR would be 29.95 if it would be released by Sony. Gawd i hate that company. Keep on going CCP. You're doing great!

for the private investors namley iceland telecom i think and a few smaller ones a lot was about helping icelands economy and these guys employ a lot of ppl in iceland indireclty
Also once they passed 70k subscribers they went profitable - hence now they have hit 80k and turning a profit - the money is going into new hardware and stuff and the results show and word of mouth is gathering pace
As for china server a IP block to TQ is a good idea. PUt all chiensse players on their server and the rest of the world on ours
