Hello friends,
I am new to this game and looking for some information. First let me start by saying I am very bad at this game.
I want to know the methods to insta lock a pod to prevent warp and the methods that might counter this.
I appreciate any and all friendly advice.

Best (only sure) way to kill pods is with a bubble, usually an interdictor.
Only way to avoid this is to not die in bubbles...

During the last "Burn Jita" thing I nabbed a ganker pod or two with a super cheap, super easy design:
Slasher
High: 3 x 250mm Light Artillery Cannon
Mid: 1 x Warp Disruptor 3 x Sensor Booster w/Scripts
Low: 2 x Tracking Enhancer
Scan resolution will be so high that your lock on time, even for a pod, will be about one second flat. You'll find that most lowsec AFK Gatecamp Bots use at least one of Slasher fit similar to, if not exactly like, one of these in their setup (while all of the nullsec AFK Gatecamp Bots use Falcons, natch).
Note that, being in a group, you probably won't be getting kill-credit (the damage output is laughable) but you will be the person to get the lock & scramble on the target first, and that's what counts in the end.
Now on to avoiding getting pinned... as others have said, shuttles are actually pretty good for lowsec, because unless their AFK Gatecamp Bot group contains one of the above then odds are you will be in warp before they can even get a lock on you. At least, no mere human controlled ship will be able to.
If that doesn't work you can always stuff a Venture (inherent +2 warp stability) with even more warp stabilizers and then nothing short of a bubble can stop you (and since bubbles are banned in lowsec, unless you go into null you're pretty much untouchable). Though the Venture doesn't accelerate like a shuttle, so you may take a hit or two, so don't skimp on the shield extenders - the bare Venture is, after all, an eggshell - and the bird that laid is was drinking DDT. Best way to avoid getting instalocked in your pod is to have a shuttle or newbie frigate to serve as an additional layer of ablative armor in case you do get locked. If you're already in your pod, your Evasive Maneuvering skill might help you get aligned more quickly (you can even boost your align time with an implant in the #7 slot). While travelling around empire space, by all means use shuttles: they're cheap, disposable, available almost everywhere, once in warp go faster than a pod and they don't need any module to do all that. And if you get caught anyway, you still have plenty of time to spam 'warp to' and save your pod.
The only real danger is smartbomb camps, however those are almost always run in well-known places by well-known individuals flashing bright red in your local. So if you're paying just a little bit of attention you should be able to avoid them easily. |

If you don't fly in null-sec space, and start spamming the warp-to button as soon as you're sure you're going to blow up, you will essentially never be podded by anything.
It requires a warp bubble (0.0 only) to actually catch a pod coming out of its ship, barring things like lag and so on. The align time of a pod is on the order of if not faster than the server synchronization frequency.
(Now, once you're in the pod, people may catch you warping toward things, since they have a bit more time. To avoid this, hit up a station for a free noobship first, so there's something between you and pod-death.) |
