I'm going to be a very angry customer if we get another message on the frontpage along the lines of "Yesterday at Sunday 11 December, EVE yet again broke its concurrent user record. A total of 19480 users were online at once, and no noticable lag was reported".
Like the last time when the record was broken, the lag was terrible and CCP just ignored everyone.

Oveur has already blogged about the server situation. The new server as well as a recent hotfix have shown great performance increases so I'd imagine they are going to be ordering a truckload of those servers in as fast as they can get them. That said it will probably be a few more months till the new servers are in place but they should hopefully be in before kali.

Yay for 19K...
Except, well, how many are players and how many are ISK farmers from a large Chinese-speaking nation we'll not name here?
As an example: I was chasing a new three-member macro team that kept changing systems. They had had some bad luck in their choise of systems they mined in, which helped me to lock onto them: First they mined where my agent is, then they mined in the system between my agent and our corp office, and then they moved to the system our corp office is in. So when they changed places again, curiosity made me follow them.
Found them in peaceful co-operation with another team of 3 macroers I already petitioned over 2 weeks ago. Co-operation as in they had exchanged their haulers. So that single macro-gang of 3 had doubled in size to 6 in the past 2 weeks. While admiring their work (and the contents of their ore cans), SEVEN newbie frigates, all with the same name, but with different numbers, warped in and killed a couple of rats bothering the macroers. They then targeted me, and finally attacked, getting blown up by CONCORD, of course.
So that single sample gang has grown from 3 alts to THIRTEEN alts in 2 weeks. No wonder the player number record is getting broken weekly. No wonder I don't manage to feel very cheerful about it.

errr. if they reacted like that, theyre not a macro
either theyre real ppl, or the chinese have invented AI
Where is my I-win button, CCP? |

It's AI, just without the A.
There's a human controller watching over the operation. Typically the mining 2-5 barges/ships are controlled by macroes, while the hauler is human-controlled. When something odd happens (like an ore thief), the controller takes over all the ships (shutting down the miners so no more ore ends up in the can for stealing and so on) until the situation resolves itself.

The server is limited to 3000 trial accounts and when I was on trial acct 2 month ago that number was usually around 1500 (it tells ya on login how many trials are logged in and the limit)
So there were at least 15,500 paying members on.
I forget which station container has my memory implants. |

Well dont blaime ccp blaime the absolute retards who thought itd be fun to sit in fleets of 200 ships, i dare u to find a server that could ever take that insane amount without lag... if the 20k pilots had been distributed then it would be fine fekken blob war *****s, after my first 4 months of playing over a year and a half ago i relised that fleet battles of over 40 ships per side plus wernt worth fighting if only the rest of eve realised that and attempted to have a good fight opposed to oh wowee i had more pilots = i can make u log off first.

It worked fine a year ago. Sure, you'd have lag, but nowhere near as bad as it is now.

human controllers have taken to fighting back why because resevoir dogs have taken to beating them to a pulp with alts whever they find them at the moment - the farmers have had their operations disrupted in a big RL economic and ingame economic manner - purchasing volumes of mining ships has risen substantrially in jita - they have started to move and apart ie with semi controlled hunting rats but still = when they target u let them attack they will be dead.
RMR can marking will add yet more fun to the mix without concord interference

Sigma,
for the record: Right during the "worst" hours of peak participation, me and another support ship covered a Tempest pilot in the final stage of an Angel 5/10 complex in an otherwise mostly empty system.
If lag had been bad we wouldn't have been able to do that.
So in some places it wasn't so bad.
Fly far (from Rens and Jita :)

Speaking of lag did any of you see the notice about the 64bit server test with CPU loads dropping from ~65% with the recent code streamlining to 20%!. It looks like they will be shifting over all the servers to 64bit. I hope that it is soon..
Its late and Ill link tomorrow
