Punkbuster has nothing to do with macros. It looks for hacks of client, and nothing else.
Punkbuster would do nothing to Eve other than slowing down the client.

I think you dont understand what macromining is. Punkbuster will not help against macrominer and i dont know any cheating with "hacked" clients.
Macrominers are a pain, but its not that easy to ban them. Well its easy to ban them but before you have to make a serious investigation to be shure that this is a macrominer corp.
But a long as we have players who pays $ for ISK we will have players who try to get the ISK just because of the $ and not because they have fun.
Cheers, Tresh

I have to reinforce the fact that the people already responded, punkbuster is to protect against hacks like gmode and unlimited ammo - packet hacks, aim hacks(memory based hacks).. to macro is just to have a program that clicks for you.. Such an "anti cheat" is useless in this case.

Yes, macro's are a huge problem but in the past the devs have been doing thier very best to sort it. The macro miners are getting smarter with name changes tho and making it harder for people to spot.
all i say is 'give the devs/GM's a chance and they will ban those doing it' ,but until people stop buying the damn stuff they sell on ebay... it will carry on

Yeah, and there's macro's...
Apart from that, Eve doesn't seem to suffer from the clientside 'hack' flaws some other MMOs have.

For the sig it's gone. :) was a test and yes it was too big my corpsies are working on it.
Yes punkbuster would slow down client version.
It scan your client version and master version and if there is a difference you will be auto banned.
I aint scared of that cuz I aint a cheat hack macro junk head dump.
I rest my case.
Cant dig it then play your your junk somewhere else.

Edited by: Yameth on 13/12/2005 10:17:06 Well as people just tried to explain to you many times, punkbuster would NOT help a bit because a macro program 'plays the game' just like a player would. It doesn't hack the executable, which would be easy to detect anyway and is probably already being checked.
Detecting macroing is almost impossible, you'd need some statistical pattern analysis to find out wether a person uses a bot or not. This is very hard, and doesn't yield any real evidence just a suspicion.

Just Force New Characters to Join a Corp after 30 days or they cant use station functions or trade that would make it so corps like resivoir dogs can deal with macro miners without loosing ships... Hey i would declare war on corps i seen with macro miners (kill and pod the miners and pod them again). 2m a week is nothing

Nope do better.
Eve has issues. Deal with it. I do my best. I am an honest player and I need confidence that eve is played by players.
Where I am there is macro mining and elsewhere too. And I need confidence that I am playing a game.
This is the basic of a game.
Wake up.

Absolutly ****e idea....Its very very hard to actually cheat on this game by using out of game techniques like hacking the client. I believe there were some who removed their ship icons from their client for fleet battles to remove any lag but thats the only client modification ive heard of.
Eve isnt 1st person shooter where ure hacking one small server which wont proberly be monitored. Lets not add to the already quite painful lag at times. Also macro-mining isnt just for ú, its also just people whod prefer to skip the mining required to get into that first bs etc... Tbh i know alot of people who use macro minming, its exploiting it where it gets sick i.e somone using 20 simutanious accounts to mine out whole systems in a week, and tbh there arnt many of them so i dont think the problem is as extream as u make out.

The safest thing to do is what I do, and shoot at all miners you come across. Its a percentage game. At some point you're bound to nail some macro idiots.

Not sure which bit you dont seem to understand but using punk buster would not help.
They only problem/exploit there is in this game is macro miners which as many people have already said punk buster would not stop.
There are no other hacks like god more infinate ammo etc, and as far as I know there not possible because all the information is stored on CCP's server and not on your own PC, which would mean you would have to hack CCP's server to enable any sort of cheat.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong please.

Any serious cheat coder has a new undetectable version 2 days after a PD update on his web site. PD didn't help with cheating in ego shooters and will not help with cheating in EVE.

punkbuster?! think of the pirates! i want to keep my instalock hack, the radar hax to find people quick, the wallhack to kill people when docked and ofcourse the aimbot that guarantees excellent and wrecking hits.

Andouus, what part of "Macros don't modify the client" do you not understand?
Punkbuster checks for client modifications. Macros are not client modifications, therefor Punkbuster cannot see macros.
Eve does not have infinite ammo hacks. It doesn't have instakills. It doesn't even have pink ships hacks. Every part of the game that actually matters, so far as hacking goes, is handled on a CCP server hundreds to thousands of miles removed from anyone's Eve client. In order to execute the sort of hack PB is designed to defeat, one would have to have already gained low level access to the Eve server. If anyone has pulled that off, CCP has a whole lot more to worry about than somebody nuking a few ships. Shoot, we'd all have a whole lot more to worry about than a few measly cheats if someone *****s into CCP's servers. (Just incase you haven't gotten it yet, if someone can successfully hack Tranquility, to run cheats, then they also have a line on every CCP customers' credit card, which would be bad, mkay.)
Incorporating Punkbuster into the Eve client is about as functional as installing parachute systems on a sea ship: needless, useless, and taking up work that can be better put to solving the real issues at hand.

I believe the DEVs or GMs or was it ISD have said repeatedly that EVE can detect hacked or different version of the client. Ok so that doesn't detect any cheat hacks but are there any??
In what way could you possibly cheat, it's not like EVE needs an aimbot.
There have been mentions of deliberately causing lag (like turning on all modules that create sound effects) but I'm sure anyone in any battle fleet has sound and turret effects turned off anyway (ctrl+shift+alt +t and +e).
You certainly could program punkbuster to detect macro programs but the downside would outway the benefits, we don't need a slower EVE client.

There are already multiple threads about Macro miners. Please post there.
As regards to Punkbuster, I am pretty sure CCP has thought of that in the 2.5 years Eve has been around.
