Let's open a discussion on Real & Total death in Eve.
Characters who get podded can reactivate their clone without a problem in the first instance . Every reactivation of a clone after the first within a 24 hour period would introduce an increasing chance of failure resulting in permanent death for that character.
Your thoughts ?

Off-the-record; so I could take my 2 year old character, get podded once - and lose 2 years of training ?

never
a) If I loose 2 years worth of skillpoints, no way I am going to start over
b) I wouldnt be so stupid to undock again for 24 hours, resulting in me getting bored with this game

only carebears will fly t2 stuff then?
it takes month/years to aquire some skills, if you pvp on a regular basis it would be your certain death, would drive a lot people off
so no its a bad idea and i see no benefit of it

Too much time investment into skill points to even consider this idea in EVE. Generally, permadeath would require the game to be designed for it to be even remotely workable - EVE is not. --

er NO
I think the death penalty is already rather harsh having to restart as a noob would be painful not to mention i doubt i would ever get to capital ship level.

Permanent death would require the MMO to be designed around this idea, it would just a completely different kind of game, not a good idea to do this over 2 years into the game.

So... you're saying that you're 100% okay to loosing 2 years of your gaming experience to lag, or a smartbomb?

I'm all for perma death in some games, but certainly not in eve for the above reasons.
I'd be happy with an insurance nerf or 10 though...

Well as is often stated on the forums if:
EVE > WOW Due mostly to the Harsh Death Penalty making PVP have consequences
I would think that there would be more support for;
EVE EVEN >>>>> WOW Due mostly to the Harshest Death penalty.
Of course if that was the case I would quit the game, but I think that just proves how silly the "PVP w/consequences" argument is ;) If people didnt have to worry about loosing a couple hundred mil - 1bil in implants and ships there would be much more PVP IMHO.
The RP aspect of the game could be the consequence of winning / loosing space etc etc. Making ppl grind for more ISK to refit .... blah. NM the fact I never even consider taking my high end rigs into 0.0 as it would be cost prohibitive to replace em.

Y'all need to CALM down. Cut out the KNEEJERK reactions.
If you took the time to actually read you would see there is a chance of losing everything...its not a given.
Let's explore this because frankly .. being able to reactivate a clone every five minutes is way to carebear for my liking.
First podding ...no problem Clone is good to go ... second, third and fourth podding produces some sort of negative (such as loss of an attribute point or similair - permanent or temporary) fifth, six and seventh podding within defined period (24 hours or similair) starts to introduce gentic failures possibly leading to permanent death.
The reason for this is getting podded doesn't mean anything ... just go and get another clone ...it will cost you a few isk but after all ..its just money and your average punter can make the cost of a clone back in a few minutes.
And to the TOOL who said I was trolling ... I love you.

@ Snake
Heh I was mostly kidding around but t/b/h I would love to PVP more but i find the cost somewhat prohibitive atm since I do not really enjoy tackling (Disposable frig route) and want to take out my pricey toys but am still a big enough noob not to be able to easily replace em ;)

Two Year Old Player perma death after a podding.
The Person stares at the screen, eyes wide open.Cant belive
what just happened.Goes out for a ciggarete, only thought 'two
years, two years, two years'. Takes a cold shower 'two years, two
years, two years'.Goes to work next day 'two years, two years,
two years'.
And forth...

I am a great fan of permadeath games, however it would NEVER work in EVE. There was talk of developing a perma-death MMO a year orso ago, i'm not sure if its in the pipeline or not. It would ofcourse be a niche game - this sort of thing is not for everyone.
The people who like to "hoard" items or skills can't get their heads around the concept of losing something once in a while. There are people however for who the journey is the thing that counts, not so much the end distination.

I'm sorry - but being someone who has put almost 2 and a half years into this game i would be - to use a euphemism - rather ****ed off to have wasted all that time.

So this is how Wow, Planetside, Galaxies, etc died
because someone posted a sick joke on their forums and the devs took it seriously, and they ruins the game.

This Idea could work for dull games where you max out your character and enter endgame in just a few weeks, WoW springs to mind.
I have now played this game for over two years, I have been an active player for all that time with short breaks as I went on holiday and I have yet to enter what I would call endgame.
At one time I was close, I had almost all skills I was interested in at atleast lev 4, a respectable number of them were at lev 5 and I started to ponder if this was endgame.
Then tech II hit and a vast number of new skills opened upp and everything was again new, interceptors, covert OP's, assault ships... I have yet to get to a point where I feel I am done and soon Red Moon Rising will hit...
I can honestly say that if this char got permakilled I would quit the game and I very much expect many with me would do the same and that is despite the fact that I have enough wealth to advance a character alot faster this time round than I did the first as I have assets secured off character in the billions.
------------ 20. Is it true all pvpers have carebear alts? Yes, of course. I have so much fun looking up who's alt is who's
