New player here. Server crashed today, and now again. Got a bottle of wine in at 21:30 to enjoy a night of Eve yet here I am at 0:25, wine all gone and I cant log in.
If this happens often, I guess I look for another game to trial. If not, it's no problem as these things happen.

No it's not common. Around patch day there are sometimes problems but remember that unlike other games, EvE patches are FREE. Mostly the servers are very stable - abour a 2% error rate I think. - / - / -

Maybe you should be more patient? No, maybe you should be grateful you're playing this and not SWG.
And no, this does not happen often.

Patient? it was a simple question. Haven been raped by SWG, I dont want to make the same mistake twice.
If the answer was 'And no, this does not happen often.' I would be assured. Since this is my first day with Eve in over a year, I need to be sure I'm not wasting my money yet again.
If the answer was 'it happens all the time, live with it!' Id be off to find another home.
It's an unfortunate coincidence I've been kicked from the game twice in one day.
I lost my patience with SOE. Patience is not a comodity I'm prepared to waste again!

Well I feel you... I was one of the ones that read the "concept" section of SOE....and seen that not only was CU in the midst...but a major renovation after that.. (I guess its called NGR?)---Well I played CU for a month, and said to heck with that--and here I am...I feel sorry for all you people who stayed with CU (as it was a knock off clone of matrix online and everquest 2)---ohhh wait SOE owns matrix online now--what a coincidence!
But bottom of the story....no this dont happen much....It has happenned more lately cause we have had like 5000 people come from SWG lately...and now CCP is upgrading their architecture to handle the increased load.....I just hope they open more starsystems soon! So drink more wine

They call it NGE. Its not so much the NGE itself even though it is awful to play, it's they way in which SOE lied to it's customers and wiped out 2 years of player / character investment. Imagine CCP tomorrow announced that in 2 weeks, they are changingt he game, and everything you have built up over a two year period is going to be worthless and you have to start again in a game that's been so watered down and kidified it's not the game you've invested your money and time in...... well thats exactly what SOE has done only the game is so buggy it's an insult they still expect their customers to pay for their beta program so they can make the christmas shopping list. All these changes were done to try and increase their subscriptions. Now there's nothing wrong with doing that, but there is if it's at the expense of the people who've paid your wages for the past 2 years. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Sorry, emptions run high on this subject! forgive my ranting.

I know all too well.... Me and my wife played for a year and a half...we both was very disappointed, and felt grief for up to a month after quitting. Hard to move on eventhough it is a game..many friendships get built. As here, it took some time, but now I have established many close friends again, and gaining new ones everyday....soon SOE will be a faint memory Ohhhh BTW---- you cannot start out as a Jedi here, and cheat the system for experience--- this is true aging knowledge

For want of not starting an SWG vs EvE rant. Eve is particularly stable when compared to other MMO games, It crashes from time to time, I've noticed that Guild wars and WoW do also. (had a WoW account and got a GW one) Another noticeable bonus is that lag tends to be not nearly as drastic as it is in other MMO games, When it occurs you don't look like a character stuck on a bungee cord.
All in all dude, its very close to patch day. and All in all, you've made the right choice. CCP looks after its customers .

It depends on how you measure common it's been down at least once a day over the last few weeks, and was down 10-12 times last weekend. Far to often for my liking.

Well, there is a choice.
Paid for expantions, which only work on special servers or
Free expantions, though acceptance of a day of DT.

It's not common for the current user record to break 1k players 3 times in just a month. With the new changes coming to the client and servers, plus the new hardware and os upgrades to 64-bit on the list, things are looking bright. Just keep in mind deployment day expect some things may not be up to par as they haven't been on a stress test with the beating the players give the server after a long DT.
That and CCP learns quickly from bad lessons... aka Exodus deployment, which is why the patch download will be outsourced, for good reason
