I'm afraid it isn't - once you understand the game mechanics (takes about 2 days), then it's the same bore as civ3. Omniscient AI, weak 'diplomacy'... etc. Actually I pretty much tried out all the 'big' games this year and got bored, except EVE. I guess I'm just getting older (27).
Oh one thing that quite fun to pass the time though is 'soldat' (www.soldat.prv.pl/). It's a 2d mix of 'worms' and 'counterstrike'. Gotta be played at least once.
