okay, maybe it's just because it's late, and I've been drinking... but here it is
wouldn't it rock to have some sort of spectator mode?
I'm mining in a high-security system and I'm talking to my corp-mates who are battling pirates in a 0.0 and I'm thinking, this would be a billion times more fun, if I could see what they're doing....
So then boom... it hit's me... Remote cameras... maybe you actually have to turn on the feature... heck, maybe it's a low-slot item... and you make ISK for transmitting your battles back to a hungry audience.... but dang!!! that'd be simply awesome....
Am I crazy, or is that a great idea??????

the most realistic way to do that would be to record demo files. In tribes it would censor what your personal setup was during demo playback. Realtime probably won't happen. ------------------

well then the remote camera can spin quite fast around :) even in warp :p
I like this idea, have some kind of drive in cinema where you have to shut down your weapons and a quite big screen (like a massive bilboard) in front of every1 with some kind of guy battling it out in a 0.0 system or something :) Another way for those pvp'er to make money if you also put on admission price hehe -------------------------------------------- My passion is to fly, nothing beats it, nothing can compare to it. Make it a shuttle derivative. Now weapons, very high speed, zero cargo, and very little sheilding. I think it's an excellent idea. ------------------------------------- Interm-CEO for EVE Marshals http://www.EVEMarshals.com |

im not sure if i got that idea of yours, just make it a no-weapon zone.. some kind of dampening field or something :P what do you need speed for on a cinema?
i apologice in advance if it's just my english that's messed up -------------------------------------------- My passion is to fly, nothing beats it, nothing can compare to it. Free as a bird. Bird of prey. |

a great idea!!
But how the hell do you make it work? I just cannot think of a feasible method. I'm not computer or programming expert but your talking about a live camera beaming images of a battle to other parts of the eve universe.
Could it be done within the game code? Just seems like something beyond the realm of programming in this game. Still would be awesome though

hmmm, a TV show ran by players for players in indle battle...
That would be neat, like can have a battle rale, or space race from one place to another by players. And a carma crew is following the racers. Now taht would be cool, or just a remote camra

Edited by: Rythymmaster on 15/08/2003 06:19:03 A small arrow which would represent ur spectating drone where u can warp instantaneously to any system in the universe..then travel through the system at speeds of 1km-5km

Well I suppose you could have the client render a different system as if you were actually there, then put that constant feed into a small window like the ingame browser or something. But this would double the amount of information coming in, and it could be exploited for spying, and it would lag up the system being watched, and it would put a lot of strain on your vid card (having to render 2 environments at once). It would be neat, but not very practical at all.

could make it render at a very basic scale aswell tough, not fully graphical, more like getting the good parts. But i think the only way to do this would be to enter some kind of virtual reality where you see trough the eyes of some1 else and that's all you see. Dunno tough, im not very much into game coding and net coding :) -------------------------------------------- My passion is to fly, nothing beats it, nothing can compare to it. Free as a bird. No reason why it couldn't replace your view... like whenyou click on the map, then suddenly you switch to your video feed....
as for the information, it renders exactly the way your own does....
as for spying..it would only be available on ships that equiped cameras.... If they were actually paid ISK for their viewership, it would rock... imagine pirates competing for ratings....

A cool idea, but too open to 'abuse'

Maybe launching camera drones into space like mines. They can be targeted and killed by other players but unless that happens, they are permanent like secure cargo containers. And no icon so they don't clutter up space.
Anyway, when you're in a station you can see what any of your camera drones see. They can even have a limited scanner (1/2 the range of a ships scanner?) and you can rotate it to check up on the area.
I suppose if you wanted to ambitious you could allow these to record .avis or something. You could also pick up the drone later and remove the video from the drones via a data disk (hey look, we can use an already in-game market item!). These videos could then be traded among players. Now espionage is back in the game.
But for how to actually do it I guess the video would have to be stored on the server because if two players traded the item it would have to transfer the actual file which would just create what appeared to be lag. I dunno, I'm rambling now.

Hmmm, a good drone type...the Super-Heavy Class Spy Drone. Range of 40 AU, and while piloting the player can't pilot his own ship... ------------------------------------- Interm-CEO for EVE Marshals http://www.EVEMarshals.com |

Maybe a low slot item, that allows you to "patch" in to a corp mates Camera, thus see what he sees, for an isk fee of course.
Would be great fun.
But maybe cause a lot of lag of the servers.
Maybe only 1 patch in per player allowed?
OR
Let us record demos.
