Edited by: Gretchen Dawntreader on 16/12/2005 17:21:28 the other person's thread "Unique font" doesn't seem to work..starting this.
I play at 1600x1200 on a good sized but not huge monitor as the game supports that resolution and so does my card, and the game looks amazingly good at that res.
Trouble is, even before RMR it was hard to read some of the small text...but it was possible. I had to use the medium setting in chat windows and could get by.
Now with RMR, the font is terrible. Even with the new font width setting set to widest, I have to use the largest font setting in chat windows and even then it's squinty. This new font is very hard to read, prices on market have an almost invisible decimal point in prices, and the ampersand (&) looks like a 6.
I have heard rumor that it was changed to defeat macros that were recognizing character pixel patterns or something. I hope that's not the reason I'm going to slowly go crosseyed playing EVE, since the macros will swiftly adapt leaving such a fix meaningless, if that is in fact the reason.
Please add one more size option beyond those currently available. The old font was fine, easy to read...why did it have to change??
One good thing, the 12 vs. 10 pixel tooltip choice now actually seems to work, right click context menus are now easier to read.
EDIT: I would add that the proportional nature of this new font is making reading columns of prices in market a nightmare.

Edited by: Eurixi Vurt on 16/12/2005 18:15:39 I second that. I also play at high resolution, and up until the RMR patch had no problems what-so-ever. The problem is very serious as I'm finding it increasingly difficult to read the text, I've had to resort to playing fullscreen at 1024x768 to be able to read the mission briefs. Sadly even running at this resolution the text is not easy to read, the text just doesn't flow.
CCP please can we have our old font back it was lovley, and is very missed. Not being able to read the text properly is starting to ruin a game I've become hoplesly addicted to.
The option to select the font, old or new would make so many people happy.

Same here! I'm playing EVE on a 1600x1200 laptop screen and the font is so hard to read that it's not too much fun anymore.I would love to be able to switch back to the old font.

Have to agree, the new font is pretty hard on the eyes.
I've mucked with the font to the extent that I could but it still is not as good as it was before RMR.
Proportional fonts in something that is spreadsheet like is a really bad idea. Making quick comparisons are just that much harder when you have to adjust for something that is not a fixed width font.

There is a 'Mole' on the CCP payroll who's main goal in Life is to change the Fonts with each new update and make them unreadable. It's true....

The new font does give me a headache. I'm not sure the font in the last patch was all that great. Fonts are actually a pretty complicated thing when you get right down to the details. I would suggest a thorough font review and perhaps have a font designer design a custom font for legibility in Eve's transparent and dark background windows.

2 areas this is especially bad:
1. the description window text ("show info") especially reading descriptions of the new skills, really small text and no way to change the size, and
2. even with the largest font choice set in a chat window, the input line seems to display in the smallest and does not change with settings..making my typos while chatting hard to avoid as I can hardly read what I'm typing in.

Hey guys, it could be worse... They could use the Alphanumeric version of the CMC7 font...

I agree the font is very hard to read at high resolution.

Seconding the pricing problem. It's really rough to tell where the decimal/commas are in numbers. Is it 1b or 100m isk? Can't tell. Also, even on the widest setting, lowercase R M looks like m.
Please fix the font again?

Add one more for the "ow, my eyes" file. The previous font was readable. This one isn't. Ow, my eyes.

I never post on forums, but here I have to jump in and agree with all above...these new fonts really need to be changed back to the previous version. I like a lot of the changes, but the exchange of information between individual players and the information obtained from EVE content are critical to gameplay and game enjoyment.
This font is too small and perpetually out of focus.

Must agree that the new font is difficult to use. I only use 1024x768 and am having difficulty reading text. While it does look more stylish this is offset entirely be the headache it is giving me. I've never had to use my glasses with my LCD monitor before but this has done it. Could you please look at changing this to the pre RMR font?

The devs are aware of the emotive subject of the font and are addressing it - see the RMR feedback thread in General Discussion for more details.
