the little login screen, appears as a little black box, and i cant log in.
this worked before RMR
there was a thread here:

but i havent gotten any help that works there, so i thought i'd try here.
things i've tried to fix this:
i've deleted pc.dat from the settings folder in the cache
i've deleted the whole cache except for prefs.ini and settings
i've deleted the entire cache folder
i did a complete re-install
none of this has solved my problem. a couple of those allowed me to log in once, but after signing off if i try to log back in, its back to the black screen.
what i have noticed however is, if i go into the prefs.ini file the last line looks like this
username=abcd
where abcd is the name of my account, if i delete the abcd part and leave
username=
i can login, but only once, after signing off abcd is back in the prefs.ini file, and the black screen is back.
any ideas on how to fix this???

Silly suggestion but worked for me - : Open upi you eve folder and rename the Cache folder to cache 1 etc - then try

sounds like it's dying while launching the client. you tried reseting you pc? if that dosent work do you still have the installers? try starting from scratch. somtimes the instilation software can spaz out without you noticing and cause these probs.
and three years of it and the best technical terms i can come out with is "somtimes the instilation software can spaz out without you noticing and cause these probs."

heheheh, yeah i tried that, full reinstall twice, nothing, every other attempt after the first one will get the black screen

well then i would go with al's suggestion. prolly something in the cache cousing the troubles.

well thats effectively the same thing as deleting the cache, which i've done it solves the prob once, but any attempt at logging in a 2nd time is met with the black screen once again. so everytime i want to login i have to delete, prefs.ini, or take out my account name from the very last line in prefs.ini.
i do not want to have to do this every time i log in.
i'm pretty sure the problem is in the cache folder more specifically with the prefs.ini file, i just dont know how to fix this problem permanently

ARRRRR, i'm getting the same problem too 
Is there a dev that has a suggestion to try?
P.S this has only started after i installed RMR

have you tried those solutions listed above, clearing cache and what not, also have you opened up the prefs.ini file and modified that last line, cause all those seem to work for me but again only once.
there was a thread here:

that i was also trying to get answers from. the last guy to answer said this

i didn't understand him completely, but the part about the login id being formed only by a number stood out b/c my login account name is a number written in numerics, i wonder if this has somethin to do with it, cause if i delete my name it loads fine, problem is upon entering the game, it changes the prefs.ini to once again include my account id on the last line.
i dont get it, is your username a number too, perchance
any help from a dev would be nice, anyone know where i get in touch with one, should i file a bug report??

I had the same problem. Deleting the cache helped, but only after I rebooted my machine. Good luck

i submitted a bug report, i think it has to do with my username being a numeric, in the prefs.ini file if i type anything else under username, containing letters, it'll load up.
so i guess i just have to wait and see what they say, and keep changing that line in that file, i made a shortcut to it on my desktop, this is starting to get annoying
