I was just wondering did we whine this much when gemini and castor rolled out? Most likely
Maybe we have just been conditioned to realize it's not a big deal there allways bugs. The devs do a pretty good job of getting things sorted out after a week or so.
nothing to quit eve over like some are ranting about....

Edited by: UndergrounD on 17/12/2005 05:01:59 Edited by: UndergrounD on 17/12/2005 05:01:40 there was more whining in the past.
And there was a lot more pointless ranting than there is now.
For the most part complaints seem fairly positive and constructive nowadays. -----------------------------------------------

By comparison, RMR was the slight discomfort to Castor's immense agony in terms of deployment. Between server problems, lottery problems, NPC's grinding PC's, all that. ---

You would not beleave the whining about Castor, OMG it was unreal. Looking back it was the shock of it all and I was on of them whining, but now I think the changes in Castor where good.
I remember the "I hate Castor" thread getting to page 9 within a few short hours. I might try and find it, and post a link.

I don't remember Exodus being this bad (in terms of whining). But I was busily writing my thesis at the time and may not have had as much time to dedicate to the boards.

people have been whinning since day 1...you cant please everyone all the time..castor was a mess...cold war was by far the best deployment..RMR is, from a deployment stand point imho, a disaster...instead of doing these big problematic updates why not do smaller ones instead..say 1 thing every other month or something __________

We used to fight more on the forums, and got away with more.
Whining is replacing forum PvP, think of it as carebear posting.

agree, there was more whining back then. BUT there was a lot more problems back then too.
now ppl are whining about getting stuck, the first day after patch.. i mean wtf? what did they expect? didn't they notice that it was LOT of lag when they where inside the stations?

I agree with Rane - moaning seemed more back then but about things that where quite major. I joined about a week before castor and i dont actually remember much moaning but then I guess I was in awe of the game so kinda let it go over my head :p
The kind of complaining and moaning you see now seems to be petty in a lot of cases but then i think thats gotta be expected when you have a player base 4 times the size it was back in the castor days.
A guy said in alliance chat the other day that the vets seem to be the ones who hardly moan at all and those that love the game tend not to get upset cos they been around long enough to know it will all be fixed in time.
I fit into that one, sure there are nigles and kinks to iron out but, as always, CCP will fix it and we can look forward to another round of whinging from the kiddies next year for the next expansion

There has always been this much whining, and just as many threats about quitting. If people want to quit because of a few minor problems as the devs are adding stuff to the game as to enhance everyones play experince, let them. And may the EVE experience of others be better for it.
All software programs have bugs(just look at windows!!). Personally I don't think its even remotely reasonable for CCP's Q/A team to get every bug. The 80,000 subscribers are certainly going to find stuff that a small team of x number isn't going too.

In my opinion the whining around the launch of Castor was waaaaaayyy in excess of what we see now for RMR.

I think we all whined more at castor cus we were all very unprepared and still fairly new to eve at that point. I'd been ingame since June 2003 and got a hoooooge shock when the belt rats wiped me out Since then the devs have kept us all more informed and they have done thier very best to release patches that are more thoroughly tested (even if it means a delay in the release).
I personally say to the devs... 'KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS!!! AND HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS!!!' (you sure as hell deserve it after putting up with us lot this year)

That was actually quite funny. Our corp had already decided not to go check out the new NPC's for a couple of days after the patch to see what they'd do. Good choice.
In response, yeah, I think there was more whining with previous patches, our whines are less in number now but imho, more refined whines.

in therms of whining, NOTHING beats castor deployment.
...think it took more than a week to get playable.
in comparision, Exodus was a walk in the park and RMR a walk in the park in a weelchair with cops escorting you. -------------------

I cant remember the name of the patch, but which one was it that toughened up the NPCs considerably?? It was pre BS NPCs, they made the cruisers godly for a while then nerfed them back, but not before ship loss carnage ensued.
The moaning off the back of that patch was incredible.....must admit to losing a Tempest in that fun day myself!

Edited by: Aelius on 17/12/2005 11:35:09 Being with EVE since Beta 4 there is the short story about the whining.
In Beta there was whining about the maximum player cap, around 300 players/testers and there was HUGE whining for NOT releasing EVE when it did (6 May 2003), people said CCP was being manipulated by Simon and Shultler to release a game in BETA still filled with bugs (players wanted a latter deployement).
Once live, EVE survived the first 2 months mainly due to the persistance of BETA testers that even paying for a buggy game sticked to it. There wasn't too much whining then because people were just staggered about EVE potential, and those were the greatest times i had in EVE where everything was made "manually".
Then it came Castor, prolly the WORST patch deployement in EVE history, and then people REALLY WHINED ALOT.
Exodus was pretty calm on my point of view in terms of whining, and RMR is beating that calminess.
CCP is getting more professional and experienced, and players are starting to realise that IMHO so that means less whining.

When Eve went retail I spent the first 2 days wondering where all the exception windows had gone. After that my ability to complain slowly returned. :P ______________________________________________
