Someone just HAS to have suggested this before - since it's SOOOOO easy....
It's not gonna look pretty though.
Why not just put a simple timer to the warp. All ships usually enters warp within a minute, right? SO PUT A TIMER ON ONE MINUTE - making you warp even if you're heading in the opposite direction!
Won't look nice - but it'll at least half-way fix the problem.... |

I agree. Or at least make warp cancel after 1 minute or give us a button to do it ourselves. Currently the only way to cancel a warp is to log out and wait about 2 minutes. This is unacceptable and seemingly easily fixable as well. CCP please explain why this is impossible. Back in the beta you were able to cancel warp.... mid warp. Obviously, this makes it trivially easy to shake off people, so I can see why this was removed. However, I dont see anything wrong with an abort warp ability before the warp commences.
Actually, why not have the ship align itself in normal flight, and only initiate warp when it is aligned. The same as it is with docking; You select Dock, and the ship aligns to the station and starts heading there, but you can still decide to just go in another direction..

Roid fields wouldn't matter because if you got stuck on a roid you could just fly away and try to warp again.

I would say that a "Cancel Warp" button which is only active when you are moving under a certain speed would be the best solution in my opinion. That speed would have to be high enough so that it would catch all known situations where people are stuck, but low enough so that people can't cancel warp after travelling a few hundred clicks to distance themselves from some enemy. 1000 m/s would seem to be a good figure there.

No there was a very good reason for this. It makes it possible to actually catch people at gates and before docking. Well, it would if we could safely use Sensor Boosters now.
Note that the target STILL needs to be stupid or unlucky. i.e. not be paying attention and not start another warp out as soon as they see hostiles at the gate/station, or have a sucky computer that takes too long to load, or CTDs.
I do, however, agree that we need something done about the stuck on roid/station problem. A generic 'cancel warp' during the starting phase is my preferred solution.

I think the cancel warp idea is good AND/or allow us to use an MWD/AB while aligning for warp... this would allow us to get out of those roids, or around the station, etc!
This can be a problem when being attacked but hey, I suppose u have problems like this in real life too - however it's damned annoying when u undock and have to wait 5 mins before you can warp away from the station!
Another idea would be if, when warp is being initiated, the ship stops in space, pivots around until pointing in the correct direction and then starts the warp... we already warp through the majority of objects so why not use that "feature" as a fix for this problem until something else is implemented!?! I'm sure I read something by a GM/DEV a while ago about a cancel warp function but as someone says here, it tends to be a while until we actually see the function appear in-game!
Show them no mercy ... for you shall receive none! |

Or maybe, gasp, just fix the agility code.
