I read many many thread about people and thier obsession with Battleships. To me it seems always - " raven this, domi that, tempest whatever"
I despise battleships. I have been adamantly refusing to fly one for over 2 years now. I can fly lvl 4 missions in my cruisers and BCs, they go much faster.. sure I lose one from time to time but theyre 1/4th the cost of BSs so frankly I can afford to lose a few. Am I alone in this? Is it always about biggest meanest, most? Does anyone else harbor a sentimental love for frigates and cruisers? I admit I am pretty pleased with BCs as well, but its mostly an asthetic thing - Cyclones look so cool!! " Beware the barn doors of death!"
While I'm on it, does anyone else chose ships based on thier asthetic virtues? Personally , unless I am doing something really important like helping mates, or something specific that requires no foolery, I wil be flying whatever ship looks the coolest to me at the moment.
My corpies seem to think I'm mad, but its worked well for me thusfar so I though perhaps, I am not mad after all, and there are others out there fighting the proverbial status quo.

For NPC hunting I use a BS, but for PVP and where I can get away with it hunting NPC's I use a Thorax and soon to be using Vigilant for both as soon as my skills get more optimal for it. Cruisers for me provide the most fun and can be very effective vs BS in sufficient numbers and mix.

I suppose it makes me mad as well - I refuse to fly anything larger than a cruiser, and even a cruiser is pushing my limits. Frigates ftw =D

No, you are definitely not the only one.
I have certain periods that i fly some class of ships. Battleships don't really attract me, though.
My pre RMR love were intys, but we shall see what will be next. Maybe intys still, maybe not.

I have been meaning to pick an inty up and try them. They are very fast. I like the whole " hauling butt through the cosmos" thing, but the minmatar only get ones built off the ... pointy ship - sorry, very late and my brains malfunctioning- anyhoo, I don't much care for the looks of it. I've got a wolf I'm tickled to death with, it looks like some kind of evil bat-thing rifter. Have you tried the assault ships? How do you like them?

I refused to fly anything with a sig radius larger than 30m (i.e. not even normal frigates) until shortly before last christmas. Then came the assault frigates.
Then I refused to fly anything slower than a Deimos for another few months until Seleene made me fly battleships.
You're not alone, no. But as far as "aesthetic virtues" goes I do tend to choose my ships that way. Or... at least I complain loudly on teamspeak whenever:
* I am flying a non-Gallente or non-Amarr ship
* I am force to fly in Caldari or Minmatar space
* I see a Caldari ship
Though, mostly I complain about Caldari ships whenever Recluse XXX is around.
That said, neither the Celestis nor the Dominix is exactly beautiful.

I got a Wolf I fly from time to time, my only concerns with this little baby is getting webbed by the latest variations of rats in Eve. There's a guy in PTS who swears by his for missioning lvl3's and is constantly pfffffttt BS's. I am a BS and AS flyier and appreciate both.

I also hate Battleships, and even Cruisers are too slow for my liking. Only recently trained up BS skill because making money in frigates is slow

using cruiser, short of a HAC, in a mission will make it tough to blow up the structures that have goodies inside.

I'm guilty as hell of this. The reason?
Frigs are paper. Sure, they're fast, but they have no staying power. A few good shots (or one good shot in some instances - sorry about your malediction, Black Hound!) can take one down.
Moreover, small ships are...limited...in the types of modules they can fit. Battleships, on the other hand, are far more flexible. Jammers, target painters, nos, specialty drones, sensor dampers, webs, scramblers, and more can all be fit on battleships, sometimes all at the same time. Frigs? Many of these modules will completely own the frig's cap in just one or two cycles, not to mention taking up slots needed for tackling, speed enhancing, or tanking gear.
Finally, I'm quite simply a sucker for firepower - I'm the type of person who, if I can use a bigger hammer, I usually will (if it's effective to do so, anyway). Probably has something to do with being a peon in real life and not wanting to feel like one in a game.

Im with you frig guys, Im a dedicated Harpy pilot for the last 7 months and ill kick and scream if i ever have to climb into any other ship...then i sulk

Hehe...sounds like me when I have to climb into a frig. I have a harpy...somewhere (I think it's up in Nonni...or is it Jita?)...and used to have a crow, but I never replaced the last crow I lost.

My reasoning behind disliking Battleships is more of a practical one. I found out early on that in EVE PvP, Teamspeak is vital. More so than other MMO's i've played so far, as the interface doesn't allow for player created assistance macro's (If you've played DAoC, you'll know what i'm talking about.)
Since i'm disabled and can't use TS at all, this has been a bone of contention ever since the program became a 'must have' in most MMO's. The way I see it, to ever have a chance at keeping up with others in this game I *need* to be fast, or i'll slow other people down. Plus I envision I will be flying solo a lot and Battleships just seem too bulky for guerrilla-style warfare.

Was just about to say that. I can live with flying a cruiser from time to time but frigs are my all time fav. Battleships are too big, too slow, too boring. Frigs are just more fun, and cheap  .
Atm im training to use all frigs in the game, along with the weapons for them. Should be fun :D
