Is it worth me getting one of these in the hope that they are going to fix projectiles and lvl 2 BS's. I can also use amaar BS's but i dont really wanna use the armageddon. If they fixed projectiles would the tempest really be that bad???

IF projectiles were worth using then the Tempest would be a good ship. The 8/5/5 slots are the best of the level 2 battleships.

I would personally like to see the mid/low slots the Tempest has switched with the Typhoon IE 8/4/7 for the Tempest. Then, it would be a good ship.

If it's worth, one can only really guess since no one knows what is going to happen. Tho we have a statement from TomB saying that projectiles have an buff headed their way (especially the L projs I assume) so in my opinion, yes.
I don't think the devs ever intended projs to be left behind so severely as they are now, which can only mean they are bringing them up to par with the other guns. In which case it all comes down to preference really, which type to get =) -------------------------------------------------------------- My opinions are my own and not those of my corp

As you and others have noted, until there is some focus on projectiles its a bit of a risk. Even with Projectiles fixed the ships have a problem with the number of available Turret points. The Tempest has just 6 compaired to the Apocalypse's 8 and the Megathron's 7. This limit could be a major issue if you want to install smaller guns to cope with Frigates.
I know that the special Ablity skill will help once you have a high lvl battleship skill, but the same can be said about the ablity skills of the other ships.

Edited by: Teister on 17/08/2003 02:34:10 Edited by: Teister on 17/08/2003 02:33:05 One thing to consider, as posted before in other discussions, is that with 5 mid slots and using projectial weapons, you have a LOT of cap space availalbe. Mount EW and Thermal hardners, you will be eating armor way before any armengeddon or apoc will. Laser based weapons only do Thermal and EM dammage. In most cases, they will be runing out of juice while you are still firing. So, on AVERAGE vs and Arm or Apoc, Tempest has the advantage if resonably out fited. Against any BS, the cap can be used to your advantage, althrough just about anything in this game can be counterd. Yes, I like my Tempest a lot. The 5 mid and 5 low slots let me mount ECCM and hardners, keeping in good shape for most PvP situlations. I like mine so much, I bought the BP!

Projectile balance aside, I wouldnt use a tempest unless it got more CPU (450 is NOT enough) or it got a couple more low slots.
I dont think the low number of turret slots matters, you can use drones to keep frigates off you, and you still get the launchers. But then, im one of those crazy minority people who think that even though they need to be beefed up, missiles can still be useful. Im getting a typhoon, after all. +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

All i can say is add one more low slot, 50 more cpu, and buff projectile guns up a bit. That will make the Tempest Rock! _______________________________ What was that? |

I think it said in the sticky that the Tempest is in line for 1 more low slot and an extra 100 CPU at next patch. ============================================== "Trust no man who says to you that 'The ends justify the means' or who says that 'We will do whatever it takes...'. Where did you hear that?
In all honesty, it's hard to place any faith in rumours with this game...usually it's only wishful thinking... Centauri,

They added 10ms speed, 100 cpu and one low slot and it's already live on Chaos.

Anyone who actually have a good experience with a Tempest? All my friends says they suck, but I'm not so sure about that, the CAP proj. guns takes/shot is nothing at all, so you can fire untill you're out of ammo, and yes I know, Projectiles sucks atm, but I think they will be better after the patch....
Would be fun if someone could post a good strategy - outfit - whatever for a Tempest..
Thanks for your help

Well, I've not had any ad experiences with it really. But not any very good at that either. As projs stand today on tranq, the tempest has in effect no bonus. (since the projs suck no matter what) It got only 5 Lows, which is not to much (another one with the patch.) And 5 Meds, which is very nice. Still not a raven or a Scorp ofc, but still, nice.
Only 6 turrets tho.. then again, if they fix missiles, this wont be such a problem either.
To finalize, the tempest (or typhoon for that matter) is one of the weakest bs atm. With the patch tho.. then it will be a force to reckon with.. (or so I hope) -------------------------------------------------------------- My opinions are my own and not those of my corp
