This game seriously needs Space Whaling. Think of it as way of mining but wouldn't it be way more interesting if the 'asteroid' ran away or even tried to ram your ship!
Also you could have eco hippy corporations trying to save the space whales from the space whalers.
Cool idea huh?
Anybody?
Ok I'll get me coat. thx bye

no.
And I hate the idea of something living in space without a spaceship... I'm sure someone could think of something a lot more interesting to make mining fun. yeah, you've seen final fantasy too many times ;)

ah dumb idea. But riods moving around by themselves running nto other roids would make it a bit more intresting. But running away from you b/c its being mine. Nah dumb. It make rock smart. why make rock smart. Rock rolls, runinto each other would be more intreting.
Hehe rock and roll...

Edited by: Kristopher Michael on 16/08/2003 21:31:16 Yea, some indeginous space life would be interesting.. improbable, but interesting, I for one would be the first person to go space whaling though if the introduced it, I'm a man of the sea in real life, so BWAHAHAHAHA! Replace the word "whales" with the word "convoys" and what you want is already in the game. :)

Hunting space anomalys and possibly vacuuming these into custom built containers for trading, disposing or whatnot I can see happening.
As energy wants to flow and not sit in a tank it'll fight back, some might even argue that it's sentient and some still have seen it attack the Enterprise...

Baldour Ngarr I think hes talking about something a little more dificult, any fool can mop the floor with convoys with a frigate, but imagine something you could go hunting that would require battleships to be able to take on? How about rouge drone swarms (yes these were supposed to exist. Something like this I would love to see.
Imagine if a load of these drones decided to attack several systems en mass, then empires could call upon players to help giving bounties and maybe rewards for defending their systems? Therse loads of scope hear for more interesting play and events. "Death Before Dishonor" |

Edited by: Methesda on 17/08/2003 12:05:48 Sheesh, I think it was a kind of joke... but anyway, whaling isn't the same as hitting convoys. You take a significant security hit for hitting convoys, and they don't look as cool as a big flubbery space alien big blown to big gloopy bits...
Oh and Wamingo, for pete's sake, THE GAME ISN'T REAL... yes we all know that things can't live in a vacuum, but then we can't travel at 2au per second without becoming so many photons either...

Well it was generally meant as a joke, but in fact I don't really see it as the same thing as hunting convoys:
- Giant space organisms probably wouldn't drop spaceship modules (unless they eat spaceships!).
By contrast they could, for example, have skeletons made of zydrine, so hunting them would equate to mining but with more risk and more reward involved because you would have to contend with angry packs of prey on top of the npc pirates.
- Convoys don't hang around gas giants and stars in the middle of nowhere. Lots of sf has speculated about aliens 'eating' gases from planets and the tropospheres of stars, and that would be an interesting way to help bring these neglected areas into the game.
