[3] Edited by: Tyr Guann on 16/08/2003 18:07:46 so you're justifying cate camping and random ganking as "self defense"? thats the most...optimistic view of the situation i've ever read Edit: to be less offensive to QM |

[9] well i wasnt going to say that camping and poddin everything in sight is a reasonable action. it is not considered a self-defense BUT when players wander off into 0.0 zones where other players do their own things in secrecy, certainly you dont want to be disturbing them. you'd do the same if you were strip mining Arkonor and some other player decided to come and spy on the location so he/she can later come with better forces and spook you away from your belt. All i am saying is that if you dont want to get podded dont go to 0.0 zones and even if you do please be careful and plot your route in advance. (\_/) (O.o) (> <) |

[11] Bottom line is: Violent actions against other players can be classified as self-defense bot always but in some instances. (\_/) (O.o) (> <) |

so territorial actions? fair enough, as long as you give them a warning and a chance to leave peacefully, instead of sending them straight to hell as soon as they drop out of warp. if they don't comply with your request, i'd say it's more than reasonable to send them packing, as long as both parties involved know the consequences of both their actions. |

In case you didnt notice there, MR. 'doesnt live in the real eve world' Most people dont stop and chat when they come to a jumpgate. If they run for it, then they know they are running a blocade and shouldn't be there... Come on, man, people arn't that sutpid. You come out of warp and theres more then two ships there, you know your had. If you run, your essentially telling the people at the gate to F*@# off. To me that's fair game. If people would stop and chat, I'm absolutey certain that players getting killed would go dow significantly in most regions of space. I can honestly say I have NEVER seen anyone out in 0.0 space that didnt know they were taking a chance on invading claimed territory. For every 1 true innocent, there are hundreds of people that know better weather they admit it or not. Everyone leaves the world a better place. Some for having been here, some for leaving it. If children are the future, we need to weed out the bad ones before they get elected. |

Where in my post did I mention jump gates? In my first post I stated that random gate camping, "controlling" 0.0 space IS a pirate activity. My previous post was in response to the idea of protecting mining rights. If you would kindly remove your head from your "high and mighty" arse, and read the whole thread, I might consider debating this issue further. And "the real world of eve" is a contradiction in terms. |

Controlling 0.0 space is not a pirate activity. Piracy is profiting from killing, looting and ransoming random ships. 0.0 territorial conquest is the act of conquering space, building an infrastructure and profiting from the resources in the areas you own. If your corp had spent billions of isk, months of player time and many many ships conquering space from your enemies then why the hell shouldn't you keep random freeloading neutrals from exploiting what you sacrificed so much to earn? If you have a problem with whatever corp or alliance stopping you from leeching off their space, then get some friends, make a plan and take the space you want from them. If they've spent so much building outposts, putting up pos's and defending their space then what gives you the right to tell them how to run it? ----------- Join channel 'Turby' or die! [21] Lots of things in this thread make me go ---> "Huh?" When I go to 0.0 space - I don't plan an extra 30 minutes to talk with every bloke I meet at every gate. I don't do it in Empire - I ain't doing it there. I got places to be. As far as Belts of roids, I don't listen to people who say go away. If they shoot at me - they might be pirates. Sure are behaving as such. As far as POS(s) in 0.0 - If they ain't NPC - I don't visit them. Yep - and anything out in space - well - if I can keep the Rats off me - it is mine. I don't shoot first, but I shoot back for sure. If Alliances use their space then, sure, have at it. However, if I can stay in a system for 6 hours and NOBODY even goes there - then I can surely have anything I want there. I did this in the heart of BoB space once. They DO NOT UTILIZE all their resources. If they are not strong enough to protect them - then I am taking them. Those are their rules and I play by them. Not that I fly way the heck over there to mine some dumb rock. Still - what a friggin' waste of space is most 0.0 areas. Truly, more gates from Empire to that space need to be made so Empire people can come and go as they please. Any argument about hey I shoot people because they might oneday shoot me is not sound. If you are at war - well - alrighty then. Random attacking folks just because they might be a competitor is silly. Random shooting of pods just because you can get a cool eve-mail is silly. Attacking folks to take their stuff is at least HONEST. Podding them to make their trip longer to get back at you is a sound strategy. Truly though - letting them run away in a pod takes more time and probably should be done unless they are smacking in local. Of course in a war - you also want to maximize isk loss. Yep - I am opinionated. For me, these are the right answers. I expect anyone who shoots first to take the consequences of that action. Being concerned about others being where you can see them - so you just shoot - is really silly - bottom line. I can see where people decide they OWN space. However, what you own is what you can protect. Usually - that is a POS or a ship. Protecting asteroids or moons is kinda reaching when you are not around them unless there is some sentry. In a way - 0.0 space is ruled by Mobs at the moment if you look at it from the perspective of protection rackets. A very unsavory thing. They want you to perceive them as ruling. I contest all ownership of systems except EMPIRE. However, I am not going to fight some misguided person just because he perceives he owns the area - unless he shoots first. If I have somewhere else to be I am probably still going to just go there. So I guess I just about disagree with the Original Poster across the board. The only thing I don't exactly disagree about is people whining. Although I would still like to return the podding favor to Strangey one day. My main beef is his shooting of me was not warranted or of ANY value to him. He shot me cause he was bored... Yeah - this thread makes me go "Huh?" |
