Edited by: DaSampla on 16/08/2003 19:24:35 Edited by: DaSampla on 16/08/2003 19:23:34 Just wondering what you guys thought was the best Gallente mining cruiser?
I'm not big on Drones to be honest just the normal mining and a bit of fire power to cover my behind :)

The Thorax, of course. Most turrets, more than 1000 drone bay (10 harvs).

Isn't the Thorax a bit low in the cargo capacity compared to say the Exequror? I suppose it won't matter if you have a hauler with you. Just wondering

If you don't mind swapping ore till your hand hurts, the Thorax is for you. with only 450 in cargo space (with five basic expanders), you're going to do a lot of swapping. An indy is a must. If you have non standard cargo expanders (getting them from loot takes quite a bit of luck), so much the better.
Basic Cargo Hold --- 15% Expanded Cargo Hold 1 --- 18% Type E Cargo Hold --- 19.8%? Alpha Mod Cargo Hold --- 21.2% Partial Power Cargo Hold --- 24.2% Mark 1 Cargo Hold? --- 27.2%?
There might also be a Type D cargo hold, but I can't be sure.
With these rare holds, you can push the Thorax cargo over 700 and beyond.
I know there are people out there who actually don't enjoy swapping ore too often, and many have gone back to guess what---the Vexor. With four cargo expanders, the Vexor has nearly double the capacity of the Thorax, and you can hold 1200m3 of mining drones. The Vexor is also a better choice if you can't bring an indy along, like in more hostile regions of space.
Exeqeror is good for starters, but if the price of the Vexor is close enough, go for the Vexor. The Exeq does not have the same cargo space as the Vex (3 low slots instead of four) and less drone space (800m3 vs 1200m3) but if you don't have high drone skill and if you bring an indy along, the difference is neglible.
I notice that in the Amarr region, the Exeq consistently goes for 2.5mil, while the Vexor runs anywhere from 3 to 4 mil. If at 3 mil, I would pick the Vex over the Exeq.

I just have an Iteron MK3 with an XECL mining laser and 2 basic expanders and one expander 1 and two after burners and a civ shield booster, I just role up on a roid and mine and walk away of course I turn my shield booster on auto repeat. I can carry 4k + some, its a bit slower mining and I can't mine in very dangerous areas but I find this combo more effiecient than a ship that can mine fast, because you lose time and money going back and forth to the station to unload. I find this more useful also if you are solo and not in a mining gang. Kutka |

if your mining skill/drone skill are too high, thorax is not your choice.... every minute your mining laser or mining drones will stop because your cargo is full......

not really... On my Thorax, I have 5 CU vapors, and use 8 harvesters (in 1.0, 0.9 space) and I only need to turn over ever minute.
(I have 5 Expander 1s on her)

Mine in cruiser, go to station, jump into iteron and pick up.
Also create instadock bookmarks so you dock in a second instead of chugging on 203 m/s over 35km

i found that i had to stagger the lasers on the thorax in order to be able to clear the hull out in one cycle.

Yeah, I use a timer to space my lasers and drones out (five and eight); well worth it though. I pull in over twice my cargo volume every mining cycle.

I thought it was obviously thorax when I read the title, but now I realise that trading 1 high slot for double cargo (thorax for vexor) is not an entirely bad idea. And when miner IIs are fitted, the thorax's limited cargo woes will only be excerbated. Having said that I'm sure not giving up my thorax!
