As far as the forums go, so far the people doing the best job of moderation aren't even moderators:
The Polaris Bug Hunter reps.
Let's do a test - I posted an exploit tonight.
Let us see how long it takes.

Quince al'Pillan: I was simply making a sugestion that would require not much effort at all. Joining polaris isnt something that should be required for that.
Hear is another sugestion I made a while ago but got ignored. An automatic unsticking script. Basically when a player becomes stuck they hit a button, after 15mins they are moved to the previous system they were in. Such things exist in games like UO, but this would get rid of all those stuck petitions that the GM's are aprarently dealing with all the time. "Death Before Dishonor" |

Edited by: GenX on 16/08/2003 23:27:56 you are right I see that anyone can be a mondertor. Anyone...
And the fourms are cool for the fact that we can talk to humans, but they are just players.
Not the support staff or CCP them selves. Also, where is the bloody phone number to call a human support perosn....
Oh wait, I may be put on hold for 2 days, that maybe pretty exspenive.

GM Khakkhus (sp?) thanked me for informing them of it and they'd look into it.
A little under 90 mins to respond.

Joshua Calvert: then you are lucky as you are one of the ones that the current system seams to favor, who knows maybe the GMs like you. But because you dont have any issues doesnt mean other people arnt, and I am yet to see any coments about the actually sugestion of a proper customer service forum to get all the serivce related posts there instead of everywhere else. Did you report it as an expliot? Any of the harrsemnt, stuck and exploits, from what I was told was answered first. and all other stuff is not answered right away.
And I wander if that was a bot atuo response... A bot is not a human.

I already suggested, to have CCP hire actul Personal rep people to deal with the stuck and harsemnts issues, that way GM, can be reached in game for other issues.

I petitioned something tonight also and received a response within 3 hours.

These boards are not a democracy. The site is owned by CCP. CCP has placed trust in the moderators to keep discussions centered around their game. The way the forums are moderated aren't part of the game.
Whether you like it or not, your opinion doesn't mean ****. Here is an example. If you come into my house and say something I don't want to hear, I'm throwing your ass out on the porch. Why? Because it's my house, my rules.
If that's too hard for your immature self to handle, move on to some other boards. I know I won't shed a tear.

The fourm idea, is so players can talk with other players and have ideas exchanged. RElive the calls into CCP about issues about the game.
If a fourm was mondtor by a real GM, or CCP paid staff, it maybe a diffrent story.

Quote: we are doing somthing aobut, enough people complain, then CCP have to listen,.
Do you think they're NOT listening? Do you think they DON'T know there is a problem? Complaining does not solve the issue, it just makes people aware of it. I'm sure they know of the problem. I'm also pretty sure that they wouldn't have an advertisement for volunteers if they didn't need them. I think they're doing their best to solve the issue as best they can but just need more help.
If a Polaris volunteer (or someone from the CS staff) would like to post giving their opinion, I'm sure we can pick it to pieces and then complain about it.
Re: Drefsab
I'm sure one of those would be handy and would allow people to get themselves unstuck. However that does not call for a change in moderation. It just calls for the programmers to make the tools to make GMs lives easier. This is a new game, folks, with new developers. They probably didn't anticipate needing one. If they feel that the situation is dire enough, they may just make a tool such as what you suggest. They already made a tool to do fix automatically when people were stuck in gates (one issue).

IRC is not a viable form of comunictation for customer service issues, how many people are on net connections that block irc trafic, I can list several isps that actually dont allow you to use irc at all. Then what about the people who's ips cant connect to the irc server for what other reason.
What would you do if you had an issue with your ISP, would you ring them up? would you raise an issue on their support forums, or would you try and talk to them over irc?
As for you getting a reply in a good time thats all well and good so you are in the 50 odd % that get this, what about the others that dont. Does the fact that you have no issues mean that their voices shouldnt be heard?
Another issue is can anyone confirm that Eve has been pulled from the selved in best buy stores in the US? "Death Before Dishonor" |

Hmm...maybe because whenever someone criticizes CCP, you're among the first to leap to their defense? That in the past, you've performed unnecessary and vicious personal attacks on people for criticizing CCP or their representatives? That you'll go so far in your support to mock someone else with your new signature, which is a somewhat indirect attack in itself?
Hmm?

Umm I dunno about anyone else but I'm not complaining about the GMs. I'm complaining about the standard of moderation on these boards. Read my previous post in this thread. Then think long and hard about it. Then explain to me where I'm wrong.
There's really two issues here :
1) The forum moderation (dealt with above); 2) What people are supposed to do when they get no response to a problem.
I have a classic example of the second issue. A friend got the game and ended up having to cancel it and send the box off to his CC company. Why? Well he got double-billed for his subs and despite numerous attempts he could get no response from CCP. So he declared it a fraudulent transaction and got all his money back (he lives in the UK and our credit card laws work that way). He even apparently posted in desperation on these boards. It got deleted and he got a warning email
Anyone see a problem here?

Ok people, im still not seeing what the big deal about adding a CS forum to the boards is. It would take litterally seconds to add, and then all the CS issues can go there and be kept out of the main board. What on earth would be wrong with that?

With that issue about the credit card should never of happened. The person that "Warned" him should have actually read the post and thought wait there this actually needs to be sorted. Its called taking ownership of a problem. 90% of all sucessful business's use this idea.

Aye but the mods are not actually employees of CCP and do their damndest to delete every single customer support issue. Apparently it's against the rules or something - which makes you wonder why the hell they have "official" forums....

Thing is, most of these Customer Support Issues are posted/ranted about in the wrong forum.
As someone above me has already said, CCP own these forums, they set the rules, the boundaries and so forth.
We can't do a damn thing about what happens, these forums are a bonus, not a right.

Alexia brings up a good point.
1.) There are forums set up for users to get support. General discussion is not one of them nor is patch review. If someone posted on the board ranting and raving about how CCP is incompetent, etc and think they're posting about their problem then they might need to have their post deleted. There are ways to ask help and then there are ways...
2.) The CSMs are posted in general discussion. In fact, the last one was stickied for a while. Where did you want them posted? Also, Developer chats have ALWAYS been posted on fansites. What makes the CSM any different?

I'm 99.9% certain that we don't get any advance notice of CSMs here, but if we do then I of course apologise for my mistake.
Edit - oh and where are these forums setup for users to get support? I mean support from CCP of course, not from other users. As has been pointed out (forcefully) on multiple occasions by the mods - these boards are not intended for customer support. So can you give me a url for these wonderful boards you refer to mate?

Advance notice we don't get. Though I believe it happens every Wednesday (Don't quote me on that though)

Sure.
Clickie!
Known issues and workarounds. This is for users helping users but several posts have responses from GMs, Polaris, or even devs.
There's also...
Clickie!
That one. Its the support link over on the left. That is, if you haven't clicked the arrows at the top. Not only can you search for other people's questions, but you can ask questions yourself. From the help file...
Quote:
Ask a Question Tab When you are unable to find your answer by searching the knowledge base, you can submit a question to the support staff. If you do not already have an account, you will be asked for information needed to create a new account before your question is submitted.

Edited by: Mandos on 17/08/2003 01:54:52 The topic of this forum is "EVE General Discussion". If you want to talk about how this forum is moderated, the [email protected] address works fine.
This forum exists so that the players of this game can come somewhere for a general chat concerning the game. This is one reason why we want people to stay on-topic.
Please read the forum rules. By posting in this forum you agree to both the Terms of Use and the forum rules.
Lastly, if you need customer support please file an in-game petition, check the known issues forum or the patch review forum, or use the Support Web.
Edit: This thread in itself is a good illustration why debating moderation in here is a Bad Idea (TM). It draws focus from the game issues and it gets inflammatory real quick.
