Edited by: Gcuz on 19/12/2005 19:55:39 Was wondering about this myself...
Guess CCP is a bit to busy bug squashing atm to notice this.
Anyway, Contrats CCP on a new milestone and record.

Nothing to brag about in my book, not until at least they have a system of servers that can handle that load.
Lag was so crazy in most systems that the game was pretty much unplayable. 30sec to 2 minutes delay lag was about as bad as I have ever seen it on any MMO game to date. I could select "warp" and 2 minutes later my ship would actually warp to where I told it to go. Combat was pretty much the same, select a gun to fire and your ship is blown up before you even get a shot off since the lag was so bad.
CCP either needs to invest heavily into a new system of service or really start thinking about splitting this server in half. Nothing wrong with having 2 EVE servers, most MMO's have lots of servers or "shards" to play on.
They need to do something, but bragging about having 18k, 19k or 20k people on when the game is an unplayable lagfest is not helping anyone.

Don't go too hard on the programmers. There are most likely allot of bugs sucking up CPU that they have not sorted out yet.

Get out of empire if you want to escape lag. Out here in 0.0 is safer and has less lag(in general). Paragraph two shows how little you know about the game. One of the things CCP is devoted to is "one universe" where everyone is affected by power shifts and the like. Rather than "hey, BoB is dead!!! on the galactica server though." And you clearly don't understand the concept of player driven markets. Te new server would have to go through the whole start up of seeding the market again.

Maybe I have a compromise for people: if you're scared of 0.0 get out of the lagged systems! You can still stay in empire and not have lag, just fly out of the system with 300+ people in local! Seriously, the lag is not an issue except for the one or two times a week I fly into Oursulaert to dump some loot.
Kudos to CCP for putting out a free expansion, working on the bugs over the holidays, and for keeping us updated on improvements to stay on top of the growing population.

I for one would be really ****ed if i had paid for this expansion. Yes its a great expansion but quite honestly the bugs server crashes etc were appalling, we should be getting free days as a result of it all.

at least half the problems were due to the recent patch. If the 20k barrier had been broken beforehand I doubt we'd have seen nearly so much lag

I've never had anywhere near the 2 minutes lag that was previously mentioned, at most I've had four or five seconds of extra lag. Maybe I've just been lucky...

Quote: 1/2/2006 EVE Players greet the New Year At 20:44 this evening a new PCU milestone was reached when 22.020 EVE Players were logged in at the same time. CCP's hardware partners are working around the clock to deliver more power to the Tranquility cluster so that the regiment of one unsharded virtual world with no instancing can hold.

Go figgure...

trust me 0.0 is even worse as ther is less cpu allocated which means when u have a fight where d player count in a system rises, server node crashes, CCP should for once stop lining their wallets and stop further accounts till they sort out what they got by making teh current game playable.

I may only be a geek wannabe, but I don't think the server has a set limit to cpu distribution.

8.2 I already bought the game. Why do I have to pay a subscription fee?
Your subscription fee gives you unlimited access to the EVE Online servers, website, and customer support. Unlike console games where you are purchasing the game as-is, the development of EVE as a persistent world is ongoing with frequent updates to add new features and improve your gameplay experience. Subscriptions allow us to continue making EVE bigger and better.
just showing we do pay for these free patches , but i think ccp are doing a good job so i dont mind .. just waiting on the new 64bit servers

Edited by: Starfury Shang on 04/01/2006 11:38:55 Edited by: Starfury Shang on 04/01/2006 11:36:22 Do remember that the new hardware cluster is in final testing stages and is due to be released into the wild this year. The 64bit IBM Blade servers should drop the lag a lot!
And the ones that were likely getting the 2minute lag were probably in high population core systems. I had a blip of really bad lag for a few minutes but relogged and it was fine.
They still have some problems with RMR release that is causing random lag bursts which they are fixing now.

Edited by: FlashmanUK on 08/01/2006 16:51:46 Edited by: FlashmanUK on 08/01/2006 16:50:37 Find a game with over 20,000 players in 1 cluster with a depth and diversity of eve and ill happily donate you everything in my account. Everyone is looking at the negative, instead of complaining about what your not getting, ie performance which isnt an issue really. and look what you are getting. You are welcome to choose another game. I heard the WoW is beautiful this time of year. Dont forget (if i'm not wrong) the current server arcitecture has been implace since the BETA stages which was a good 7 years ago? The new technological advancment are dont forget the most current available so therefore expenice, so people who claim CCP are money grabbers are wrong. If they were money grabbers they wouldnt be doing what they are doing now. I for one am greatful to ccp for EVE, and im cirtain nearly 90% of the eve population are too.
Thats my 2 cents, dont complain about what i said because everyone has the right to an opinion and thats my opinion, so meh.
Edit > Read the bottom of this page, EVE is copyright from 1997, eve is nearly 10 years old.
