Hardly as the name of the character who editted the page is named derp mcgeeee, and trolface d1ngus. No CCP/ISD in the name therefore not impersonation. Ninjaedit: Also No CCP was impersonated as there was no CCP name mentioned |

Unfortunately the page got edited and I did not save a screenshot, but I'm 100% sure CCP has the change log for it, which can be used for investigateion. |

Corine Noas wrote:Vera Algaert wrote:Who would have thought that a wiki page that has been created & edited exclusively by Derp Mcgeeee and Trollface dlngus might not be trustworthy? And that someone might insert an image that says "Locked" inside the body of a page when the page actually isn't locked at all ... in EVE of all games! I am shocked. (If you have trouble following me - compare the location of the "Locked" image in an actually locked page like https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVElopedia_policies and in the fake "locked" page http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/3rd_PartiesOn the "3rd party" page it is just an image that has been inserted into the page body, the same way you would insert any other image. ISDs had no part in this.) CCP's official wiki as a scam means - I think not the best way for it to be used, especially if all the fake ISD referances are made by the scamming players. Besides, acting as a CCP (maybe even ISD) representative while not actually being one might be forbidden by the EULA, not totally sure though, needs checking. Anyway, this thread is not a discussion of how dumb my corp mate acted or a call for justice, it's just a warning to all other players which might fall for the same scam. So now the wiki page got edited, which means the creators suspect that might not be totally legal. I'm totally sure CCP has page edit histroy logs, so it might be worth a petition just in case. Just because barracuda said its ccp's official wiki doesn't make it so, The wiki page said contact ISD Something to get your name added, no where did it say the person who added the line of text was ISD Something so therefore its not really impersonation.

Otherwise, why the hell would they do that?

I'm all for losers scamming in EvE. It gives people someone to point and laugh at. Going so far as to edit the Wiki to perform a scam, and then edit it again to hide, is something that should definitely be considered for banning those that do it. In game we protect the new player systems, while allowing scammers to spam local in hubs, the idea being that when you finally make that trip you should be experienced enough to avoid the scams. The Wiki, however, should be holy ground. It is, in its entirety, a new player resource. It exists for the sole purpose of providing basic info to new players. Exploiting the wiki in such a manner has the potential to adversely impact EvE in a manner that in game scams never could. People on trial accounts probably visit the wiki every day, it's the page the in game browser opens. Now imagine if people started editing it in a manner to nudge new players into a specific Corp. Is it ok for TEST to edit the corporation page, stating that their member corps are the only officially supported corps? Can they edit the alliance page to say that the Goons are known scammers that prey on new players? Can someone edit the page on RMT so that it appears to be a supported service, providing easy to follow links to one of the many RMT services out there? Can I create wiki pages about players I don't like? After all, so long as I don't embed the official CCP or ISD tag I'm not actually impersonating them, right? |

They have rules stating I can't scam? Why can't I scam players? That seems odd, I'm gonna have to read the rules again. They must have added that rule in after I created my account. Unless they're psychic. Are they? |

You're very upset about what I said. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Idiot.
How many people are going to view the history of EvE's wiki? Players will inherently believe the information given to them by the game. You really expect people to sift through backlogs and be able to pick out which information is up-to-date and which isn't?
Oh, you weren't arguing that at all, you just got butthurt? Idiot. |

Eve's real consequences lie entirely in what other players choose to inflict.
If you choose to inflict only the easiest and least effective consequences on those who you feel have wronged you, expect that those consequences will be largely ineffectual. This is EVE - Everybody Versus Everybody.

That's like asking what consequences the winner of a fight suffers.
He loses some ammo, I guess, and maybe has to pay a repair bill.
