Hai guys and gals, In these days of server and buggy woe, I found something very intresting. CCP has been advertising EVE again on penny-arcade.com, a web comic with not such a small following. PA (relatively) recently started up a holiday charity called Child's Play which allows people to buy games and gaming equipment for sick children in the hospital. They also hold an auction, the most recent of which took place a couple weeks ago.
Now, perusing the pictures of this event, I noticed something very cool.
Linkage
It's a somewhat generic shot of ships over an installation in space. Sexeh. Yeah. But note the logo above the picture. Seem familiar to anyone else? Looks like CCP to me.
Someone got to purchase a very sweet, signed piece of EVE artwork with the proceeds going to charity.
So, I guess rather than just sharing this, I'll ask if anyone at CCP can comment on who signed the piece, if it was shot in game or is conceptual art of some sort. Actually, is this CCP/EVE material at all? Looking forward to learning more (hopefully).
Happy Holidays, Benz

The piece of artwork can be seen in the EVE Introduction (the one that came with CWE). It's a nice image, featuring Caldari ships and part of a station if I remember correctly.
If would be nice if the P-A guys got to play EVE ; I tried mailing them about it once, but I guess the message got lost in their daily flood. Might be a good idea to wait until RMR sets in though ...
At any rate, nice gesture from both CCP and P-A !

I have a lot of respect for Penny Arcade, particularly their work with Child's Play. Now, with CCP getting involved with some artwork, my respect for them both has increased ten-fold.

There are some really great artists in the CCP team that's for sure. Some of the short stories and fitting art scetches and drawings are amazing.
Great to hear CCP is putting in a brick for charity!! |

Well i for one feel kind of left out why didnt they tell us the player base they were putting this up for auction? Sure its nice to see them helping those who need it BUT had they told us they were doing this we might have bid to get a piece of art work from the game we play and love so much. Just think of how much that would have helped those little kids 20K EVE players bidding on something and running the price up.

Perhaps CCP can do some charity thing, like they did with the Tsunami.

Yes, the piece of artwork in that link is from CCP. The piece of artwork itself is one of five physical prints of the art, and it is my understanding that no more of them will be printed by CCP. The artwork is one of Borkur's efforts for the Tony Gonzales Ruthless saga.
Now, what the photo does not show is a voucher that accompanied the art, a trip for 2 to Iceland to tour the CCP office with flight and hotel expenses picked up by CCP.
I exchanged e-mails with Mike Fehlauer, the coordinator for the event. After the auction, this is what he sent back to me,
Quote: Thank you! It was an incredible night. Your Iceland trip instigated a vicious bidding war (in which I participated!) that got the crowd on its feet. When the dust cleared, the winning bid stood tall at $3,000!
Again, thank you for the generous donation. It was a huge, huge hit and the second highest lot of the evening. And I loved saying "Oh yes, we'll up for auction a PS2 pack, a signed book, and A TRIP TO ICELAND!!!!"
We are more than happy to do our part. The proceeds go to a worthy cause. A big 'Thank you!' to our former Community Manager Pann, for bringing this to our attention.

Edited by: Factor Benz on 21/12/2005 14:57:53 Thanks, Kieron That's really awesome - a trip to Iceland too. Phew. It's a shame that Borkur's work won't get physical wider circulation but stuff like that which makes the perfect collector's item. If only I'd been there to bid... offer you couldn't refuse, ya know.
Thanks also, Oveur who replied about this same topic in Sochin's thread about this. Good on Pann. Good on CCP.
Somebody thought of the childrens!
