I had a chat with Oveur today ingame. We were discussing the current font that is in the game.
Apparently they want everything unicode, including the font that is used for the Warp Drive Active display (also seen in Corporation headers, edit members, and the map region text).
This is NOT a whine thread. What it is is me wondering why the font got the overhaul, and the new font is now taking up 2 fonts (not just the WDA font, but also the font used all in the headers all over the market, to name one example).
Sometimes I wonder though, what if there was a "legacy fonts" option provided for players that can read Engrish? I mean, it's visually pleasing to me. It sucks me in more. I remember getting a huge bubble in my chest (that's that great rising feeling in your chest) when I warped for the first time. Now, it's all bold and boring.
Options and configurability are things that EVE has sort of lacked, in my opinion. They're offering a lot of things to players, granted, and I appreciate it. But I wish that we could just pick to have the option, or at least make it so that players can manually tinker with the font outside the game.
Just my 4 cents, adjusted for inflation.

being able to insult macro miners in mandarin is mildly amusing, but it does NOT make up for the loss of a READABLE FONT that doesn't give me a massive headache.

oh btw- they are keeping the current font. They aren't changing it back, ever.

what happened to "we recognize that so many people absolutely hate this font that we're going to close the feedback thread and look into it"?

Well, for a while they said they're looking to make improvements to the font.
Being as vague as it was, I inquired further. Apparently they are going to figure out a way to smooth the font to make it not as hard to read or something. Can't be too sure, don't want to speculate.

Agreed.
Take a look at Civilization, Morrowind or Rome: Total War for games that allow real customization.
What's the difference? Oh yes, Eve's an online game so it's OK to put less into the client features.

They plan to release a patch to update their new font. It's scheduled for release, meaning (well, in the game world, not really..) but meaning that it is set to come out sometime for certain.
So, everyone hold their breath.

There is ample evidence that a substantial number of players find the new font difficult. In the light of that I'd be interested to hear from anyone with legal expertise how that relates to the 1995 Disabled Access Act in the UK. CCP's servers are in the UK, I understand, and they provide a service over the internet to UK citizens. The Act requires that service providers take reasonable steps to ensure that their service is accessible to those with, among other things, visual impairment.
Providing a readable font would, it seems to me, fall under the heading of taking reasonable steps - and CCP can hardly say they have no evidence that the font is creating a problem.

I like the new font better. 
I think the style is more inline with the game environment, and have no problems at all reading it.

Unlike 90% of other MMOs, the devs sometimes pop into their own game to see how it's going

I'm over the chat text. That stuff will be fine, especially after the new client patch.

Yep, but that font is making a large proportion of peoples games a headache, I personally find it hard to read and have to enlarge all my fonts to read it thus making it look like playschool. Its a game where you chat over text alot, where you read text the majority of the time. So its very pertinent.
I havent been playing much lately, it really does give me a headache strangely enough

The US has a disability act that requires accesses be in place for the physically impaired as well. All that aside, doesn't it make sense that a large part of the player base has problems with the new font, shouldn't some kind of adjustment be made with them in mind? Also, it would be reasonable to be able to read warnings and other messages as they appear on screen, let alone be able to use chat windows and actually see what people are saying.

i pirated once with Oveur sitting at the gate in a Polaris for about an hour, and chatted with him in local whilest killing new players who transpor garbage all day, hurray me.
