I currently have a trial account. I thought the one month of game time and the Caldari Starter pack sounded like a really neat deal. Is it really worth it though? Is the full game better than trial? And is the ship and extras I get worth it in that pack? Thanks for any answers. |

Yes, full game is better than the trial. The starter pack is gimmicky marketing IMO, it doesn't have anything you can't easily acquire within a few hours. You could do the math to figure it out, but you will easily waste five dollars in time to figure it out. |

So I should get it? It is the same price as the first month anyways. |

Upgrade to the full game if you feel like you are enjoying the Trial enough to do so. Don't let the "FREE Starter pack" stuff influence your decision. You peaked my curiosity so I just took a look; the only thing of any real value the "starter pack" comes with is the "Standard Cerebral Accelerator", which is worth ~100 mil. The rest of it is junk, even for a new player. |

free gear won't make that much of a difference, except for the first couple hours. It's nice, but don't let it make your decision for you.
On the other hand, free is free. Can't beat that price. - Mission Overhaul - Bridging the PVP / PVE Gap - -áIf the game stops teaching people to fear lowsec, maybe people will start going there? |

Currently, the best way to start out the game as a new player is to start a trail account using a buddy invite (generates a plex for the inviter when you buy the game), then find a retailer that sells the commissioned officer pack.
This gets you a nice implant that you can use or sell (aprx. 110 million isk) and if you are invited by someone trustworthy, you can work out a deal. I invite friends and explain that I will give them half the isk from selling the PLEX.
Assuming the player sells this implant and gets half the isk form the plex, that is:
~110 for the implant ~275 for the PLEX (half of it)
This will leave a new player with close to 400 million isk. To put it into perspective, this amount would take most new pilots weeks to even months to get if starting with no outside assistance (assuming they learn to make isk in that time).
This is more than most of us could have hoped to start with, and is a great boost learning potential. In eve you learn by loosing, and this allows you to lose more. |
