So, because CCP doesnt check in with you, they arent doing anything? The object of the post is that *****ing about macrominers isnt going anywhere, so reduction in posts in the crime and punishment section about macro miners would be appreciated.
Seems to me that this is becoming a witch hunt. Anyone who doesnt want to talk to people are being called macro miners.
have you heard of ming1 through ming23? they're some of the most blatant macro miners/isk farmers, now with FOUR MONTH OLD CHARACTERS, and they're still doing it. does this sound like CCP is doing anything?
Maybe your didnt read my post. The first thing I said, was "So, because CCP doesnt check in with you, they arent doing anything? "
CCP doesnt make a habit of letting everyone know who they are investigating for macro mining, exploits, etc. The EULA states that using macros is a a crime, and CCP is doing what they can about it.
Possibly, you have never had to multitask before, but imagine this. You have a game that thousands and thousands of people pay to play. Right now, you have a few problems in front of you. Servers going down, people getting stuck, bugs affecting game play, modifications to code to make stuff work, internet site to upkeep, nodes to moniter, and a guy named ming who is macro mining in empire space, and 12,000 people spamming you with macro mining witch hunts. [/sarcasm] Gee...What is the primary problem here. Lets pour all our resources into proving 'ming' is a macrominer. He isnt effecting anyones gameplay, and isnt causing any of the server or game related problems....what? server down? pfft!! It can wait, MING MUST BE STOPPED!!! [/end sarcasm]
There are bigger fish to fry. Send Ming a nasty evemail and shoot his hauler. Just quit whining on the forums.

denying ore to legitimate miners isn't affecting gameplay? or the hundreds of macro miner accounts logged in all day, every day? or saturating the market with ore? or selling all the isk they get?

Macroes exist, they are in violation of EULA and they ruin games.
Many macroers are working in asian sweatshops getting paid a next to nothing for working 24/7 managing 100's of macro accounts and making their bosses rich.
Saying it doesnt bother you if you get ships cheaper is stupid.

I'm getting really sick of the macro's as well. And they DO exist. I finally got my hands on the software myself and a fellow corp membersw sent this to CCP to help them fight macro's.
In a system like Gisleres (our home base) there are many belt, but ALL of them are empty nowadays! Normally there are about 5-6 macros in local saying random lines when you try to talk to them. Not only the whole markt changes because of them (especially ICE ore's) but they also kill all the belt so nobody can mine anymore.
Wel they're just cheating. Reason enough to IP ban them I say.

I agree with "macroers" not helping us miners. But i cant say i agree with this "omfg those chinese!111"
I mean seriously guys, saying every macrominer is a swetshop kid is kinda umm well funny tbh. I know some guys, who dont macro, but use loads of accounts to mine together. They make 100s of millions a min, they have THAT many accounts. Do we call them macro miners? or is it just chinese kids? or is it people who have loads of accounts working together?
You can see where this "problem" has become blured. As with any moral panic (which is what we have here), lines become blured on what the hell were chasing is

My 2 cents. 1 This is a stupid Newb question that I feel I must ask, what is the EULA? 2 fi you feel so bad about macro miners get a suicide kestral and do something about it and stop cluttering up the boards with your whining; instead please proceed to launch thousands of petitions at the Devs until the problem is solved.

I will say this. In world of warcraft, the server has an automated system that watches for code stating a path a char is taking, over and over and over again. In that game (when i played it) i would sit there and fish, for an hour, and everyonce in a while i would get a message from a game admin asking if i was there or not. cause there are fishing macros in that. if i answered, he would go away, if not, they ban your account from all the games that use the companies server (ie: everquest, asherons call, wow, city of heros, and a few others.) maybe EVE could ask wow, for the coding and incorporate it into theyres... or someone could get the code (legally) and send it into EVE so they could incorporate it. So they wouldnt have to have self appointed "macro police".

Quote: You talk about these macro miners, how they use scripts and all, then talk about how they talk back to you in broken english. When I read these posts about macro mining, all I seem to see is Griefing, paranoia and Racism.
WTB series of keystrokes that can actually TALK.
ROFL.. if it talks, and makes ANY SENSE even if its in broken english its NOT A MACRO. As someone said, macros are a set of recorded keystrokes. They do NOT contain any form of intelligence.. This includes talking, fair enough, if its.. 'go away' REPEATEDLY when you pm them, be worried.
If you have a thought about a macro Petition it. if you THINK they are using macros... steal from thier can (what they gonna shoot your apoc in?? a barge?) put some ore back in thier can. and when the hauler takes it.. and they get flagged.. roast em. humans will not be that stupid (I HOPE!)
Dont whine on the fourms about it, be proactive.. swat the macroers with a kessie.. or petition it. Im off to shoot some macro-ers! cherio! Eris Discordia - Greek Goddess of Chaos and Discord |

Mcroers are a problem and they should be dealt with accordingly. The fact is that most macroers are from China. It's not a racism, it's a fact. When asian server will be launched these guys will try to stay here, so it won't solve this problem. While I don't mind buying cheaper ships, I know that macroers can destroy the industrial side of the game, and that's not a good thing for all of us. Even now tech I production is hardly profitable, macroers will make it not worth doing at all and that will be a death of all new industrial players.
I don't know how this problem can be solved, but making mining a bit interactive or checking the player afk status from time to time can be a solution.

If they talk AND mine 23/7 they are ISK farmers, and it's much worse of a problem than macroers.

Is this really so confusing?
Macroers == ISK farmers. Those are not two different groups of evil doers.
There's always a person present at a computer, but controlling multiple accounts. Typically three to four barges and one hauler.
There is no magical program that can detect someone approacing their mining op and then auto-convo them in prerecorded broken English. That's a real person. But when three barges are set to approach one can, they're each dropping a piece of ore in it every cycle without stacking, but they won't reactivate lasers when you bump them out of range - it's a macro.
I've seen enough to pass judgement on a group of suspicious looking characters fairly quickly. I don't care if they're present at the keyboard when I arrive, I'll still grief the hell out of them.
Can flagging is a great gift, I have 15 loveletters from Concord so far and intend to collect a few more today. On one kill we scored a Beta Hull Mod Expander, the two other were destroyed. 20 mill to us, 60 mill down for our buddy.
Lot's of good comedy as well, last night my corp mate popped a Bestower, he was in a Wreathe.

Heck, I have multiple accounts(2)! I use 1 to mine and 1 to play, meaning I only occasionally look at my miner. I don't answer immediately. I know ppl who have 4 accounts, emptying belts within minutes. Difficult to decide what's a macrominer based solely on that criterium... ----- FreeHansje

If one person has 3-5 accounts why would they keep them all in starting corps. If I see 5 ships( controlled by 1/2 players) and they are mining a belt and they are in a non-starter corp that's fine. It looks to me like they are really playing the game. But when I see the same thing with everyone in starter corp's and no one or only 1 person wants to talk it seems a little strange to me.

Ill just say what some others I think have said; why not just blow them up? If they are simply repetative programmes with no capacity to react then all the better for you. While I dont think that macroing in the memorised keystroke sense is what EVE needs, & wont complain if they are removed, while their here just make the most of any u come across & blow them out the sky. you win as u might get whatevers inside it; EVE wins as its another macro that needs replacing by its owner; everyone wins

Concord. Will. Come. For. You.
Macrominers/iskfarmers dont go low-sec, because in high-sec space they dont have to defend themselves.

Blizzard implemented some sort of protection for their client that inspects for third party programs - it seems to work pretty well at detecting bot programs and I imagine this game could benefit from something like that...

I'm a touch annoyed by the witch hunts lately. I regularly ice mine during the day while I work from home. Ever 10 minutes or so I lean over to the computer next to me and dock/start again. Sometimes I'm on the phone and miss a jump for 20 minutes or so. BOY DO I HEAR ABOUT IT.
I'll get on average 15-20 chat invitation per day. ALl of them threatening to destroy me if I don't respond ASAP. It's getting pretty old. Spamming people in the belts is just as bad as macroing in my opinion. For every macro-miner we have 4 spammers.

Isnt it possible to use macro miners? If people can find them why not steal all thier ore all the time then when they realise that they cant mine without people always stealing their ore they will leave. Im sure n00bs will enjoy the boost to starting thier podding carrers.

Very good point.
Let me say that I do agree that macroers should be banned but the self policing going on will mean many many mistakes. Eve is a game that allows you to play with very little attention given to it sometimes (ice mining is a great example).
If I am pirating I normally ignore convo's from most people - would this make me look like a macro pirate if there were such a thing?
This constant convoing must do your head in Haller!

So the fact that NO chinese players could ever login into Eve to play from China because of the country firewall that prevent anybody from using the IP and port of the game will not win over the misplaced hate some people seem to have.
The racism is always based on misinformation, hate and paranoia.
Why do you think CCP have to setup a completely new instance of the game to allow chinese players to play? Simply because it's the only way their gov is going to put an opening in their firewall.
The new bloodline can be used by japaneses peoples which are free as the wind to play from their country.
I would suggest macroer are more US kids that grow up with their parents selling their home stuff on Ebay and want the American Dream (tm) that they are not getting... |
